Tired Tuesday chat

Hi all!!! I keep realizing how out of touch I feel with the forum and my friends here and plan every day to log on but get sidetracked and forget. Not that I have anything news worthy to share but I still miss everyone. I like FB but it'snot the same as chatting here.

I won't go into detail about our weather but hope that all of you still dealing with low temps and more snow will get a break soon. Julie - If I remember right, it can get very cold at night in Vegas, so keep that in mind. Have you been before? It's one of those places that looks crummy in daylight but very cool at night. I hope you have a great time!

I haven't seen Philomena but I saw an interview with the real woman and it was very touching. I probably couldn't handle the movie :(.

My boss and former boss are here today working on "data". I needed to get Board packets ready to go, so I've mostly tried to ignore what they're talking about. Not that I would understand any of it anyway but it would still give me a headache.

I've moderately enjoyed the olympics but constantly hear the results before I've had a chance to watch the events. Not super exciting when you know the outcome.

Does anyone watch Castle? The last episode had James Brolin on as Castle's dad. I think he's 73 y.o. now but holy smokes does he look good?!  

Tracy, my sister-in-law just flew into Portland. She's from Louisiana and the last month or job has taken her to all of the areas in the Northeast and to some of the Canadian border states in the mid west. Poor lady, coming into all of those areas, just when they were having their worst snow storms. She said the sun was actually shining when she arrived in Portland. Even if it is raining now, I'm sure she won't mind it too much. Julie forgot to tell you, enjoy Vegas. I've been there only once...for a seminar. Not much of a gambler but did take a walk to see some of the casinos. Should have taken in a show though, but just didn't think about it and my time was taken up pretty much with the seminar anyway.

Cathy, you'd love Philomena.  It's one of those movies that even though the story is sad, the actors have such great chemistry that it's well worth shedding a few tears.  I cracked up when she was telling the plot of the romance novel to Martin.  His expressions were priceless. Tracy, I always call Judi Dench, Judith.  I think I called Steve Coggins, Scott Coggins.  lol  Thanks for helping me try and keep them straight.  

Cathy, I agree with Jackie -- you'd love Philomena.  There are so many funny scenes that the sadness is balanced out.  Also, Philomena herself is such an optimistic, hopeful person (in real life, too!) that you feel good about that.  It helps to know she went on to have a happy family life, despite her experiences.  

And yes, Jackie, the chemistry between the two of them is excellent -- that guy has such a dry sense of humor.  That scene with the romance novel plot-telling was hilarious.  I also loved the part when he was describing her to someone, and he said she calls everyone "one in a million" --- just that afternoon she referred to 4 people that way ---  what are the chances of running into four "one-in-a-million" type people in one afternoon!   So funny.

I don't think there's much chance they'll win any of the Oscars they're nominated for, but I sure wish they'd get at least one!

Cathy, I meant to say that I don't watch Castle, but whenever I see James Brolin, I think the same thing.  Some men sure age better than others, and he's one of them!

Cathy it's good to see you , yes I am a Castle fan.  I have watched it since the beginning :)  James Brolin loved him when he was a "Doctor" and love him still.  Not to mention he is married to one of my favorite voices :).

Snow here, too, then we had a bit of rain to make the snow super heavy. I am pretty sure everyone I know has given up their gym memberships if they have to shovel! It's supposed to freeze and then snow a bit more tonight.

Spring is coming, I know it is! And, the Flower Show is this week. This year, there are supposed to be vintage cars throughout the gardens. Should be kind of cool.

Nothing else exciting here.

Hoping this gets lost/buried in a late night thread but I too had a son I gave up for adoption when I was 16. My circumstances were very similar to Philomena's. It's not something I talk about ever, with anyone. other than my best friend who lived through it with me. I think it'd do me good to be more open about it but to say it's an emotional subject is an understatement.. So, this is a huge step but I'm 56 and kind of tired of carrying the secret around for so long. If it weren't for feeling like you've all been like family, I wouldn't even dream of doing this but it feels somehow safe.. Wow....not easy to hit the post button.....

Cathy,  as a fellow west-coaster, I may be one of the few who sees the late night posts.  I came on for a final check of the day before turning the iPad off and saw this.  I'll follow up in email but didn't want to leave your post hanging overnight.  I feel bad all our talk today about the movie probably upset you.  I'm sorry!

I'm sending you a big hug and loads of supportive vibes.  I can't imagine what you've experienced -- all those years ago, as well as all the years since, and now, tonight, as you've shared this with us, but I admire your courage and strength.  I don't know what else to say other than you're supported here among friends who care about you!  If Ican help in any way with listening (reading, that is), I'm here!

Cathy, I wish I could give you a hug right now.  We all know what a loving person you are and I can't imagine how hard it has been for you to keep this to yourself.  I hope you know we've all got you held in our virtual arms.

I have been to Vegas a handful of times. It's a great jumping off point to to see the southwest. Our plans are developing as the days go on. It looks like we might go to death Valley national park whooooo. I have always wanted to go there! I proposed it to my friends who said YEAH! hehe one of my friends totally gets down with ghost towns so she is all over it. Love adventurous friends :) now to change our rental car from a car to a jeep. What fun this might turn out to be!
