Thaw-out Thursday

    Thaw-out Thursday

I don't see chat for the last couple of days but maybe I'm just missing it. Work has been insanely busy - I've worked more over time in the last couple of weeks than I have in years. Oh well, can't complain about having a job! Even down here we're feeling some effects from this storm. Hoping everyone is warm and dry!!! Doug that is some cute pup!!

Hi gang, hope you are all doing well. Up here in Northeast PA we are getting hit hard by a snow storm already several inches, about an inch an hour. I'll post pics later. Working and shoveling today. Looks like I'll be snowed in for the weekend. Stay safe and warm everyone.

I saw on the news that those of you on the east coast are getting slammed by the storm. I am so sorry...I tried not to send it you way :( We are finally going to get some more thawing today temps are to reach 50, woohoo! I will try to send the warmer sunshine your way.

Callie, I think there's been a chat thread every day.  I may have to go back to the linear thread format.  So many window panes open that it's confusing and cluttered looking.

I feel bad for those getting this snow/ice storm too.  Gin, glad you're getting thawed out finally.

We've got good weather.  We could host the Winter Olympics.  *wink*

We've been watching the Olympics.  I love watching the biathlon and the ski jumping and the speed skaters.  The figure skating is kind of boring.  I used to like watching it but for some reason I just don't anymore.  The snowboarding is crazy!   I'm glad they finally let women compete in the ski jumping.

I was so happy to see the Wire haired Fox terrier win at Westminster.  If I'd had a bet down, I would have won. lol  I really miss having a feisty terrier around.  The other dogs, not so much. :)

I am starving.  Ate my yogurt and some nuts.  I can't wait for lunch.  I'm going to take my sandwich and Gabby to the park.

50 degrees would be awesome! I'm jealous.  I have a lot of sympathy for those getting winter storms today. I'm so over it I think I'll have a meltdown if we have another winter storm. A little bit of snow here and there is fine but I don't think I can take another power outage type storm

I got my taxes done last night. glad that's done! I wasn't as thorough as I normally am so I'm sure I missed some deductions but I just wanted it finished. I itemize so much stuff with my SAR activities, it takes a mental toll that isn't worth it to me this year.

Oh to be able to take a sandwich to the park!  We are getting totally blasted today.  I waited for a snowplow to pass and then turned in the direction it had just plowed.....it's coming down so fast that I had to look hard to see that the road had even been plowed.  They say up to TWENTY inches this storm, and at the moment, we are "only" getting an inch per hour.  That is supposed to increase to TWO inches per hour and then later on up to THREE inches per hour!

The little town I work on Thursdays was completely shut down today.  I was able to see four clients.  Figured I'd work some of the little plaza's on the way back into town.  Nope, they were all shut down too.  On one hand I'm glad to see that folks are taking the warnings seriously, on the other hand, it's rather hard to sell anything with no one to see!

Will send out a flurry of emails from home (if I can get there!) and try to make the most of it!

Callie, I've noticed that at least one day this week, the thread title was confusing, but I believe that there has been a chat every day.

LOL, I was hoping for a Lab or a Berner. Of course you know me I am a big dog person. Ok I started this 3 times so I am gonna say goodbye for now cause it's busy here

Callie, Jackie is right.  It was hard to find the chats a few times because they were buried in the other window panes.  Even with the linear thread view, I had to scroll down a ways to find it because there were so many other ones towards the top of the list.  I was thinking people couldn't find it because there were so few replies, but maybe people have been busy dealing with crazy weather!

After the 3-4 days of pretty major winter weather (for us) last week, I don't envy those of you dealing with this latest pattern going up the east coast.  What a mess.  I've been thinking of Karen in NC, hoping she's doing okay.  Sending warm and stay-safe vibes to her and to you, Glenda, with this latest storm, as well as to those of you still buried in previously-fallen snow!

Jackie, your mention of the biathlon reminded me of something funny I heard this week.  That's the event where they cross country ski, then stop and shoot at targets with rifles, right?  I heard someone say the other day that they thought it was a stupid event, how much skill does it really demonstrate, and that it would be a real challenge if the athletes had to shoot the target while STILL skiing, not stopping.  I had to chuckle at that.

Tracy, I bet whoever said that about the biathlon shooting being easy has never shot a rifle.  :) Someone said the other day that those biathlon peeps would be the only ones to survive an apocalypse. lol

    • Gold Top Dog

Jackie, I bet you're right on both points!  It does seem like a weird combination of skills to put into one event.  I wonder why they don't have something similar in the summer Olympics that's running and rifle shooting, or bicycling and archery or something like that?  Wink

I'm having a minor anxiety attack about several things I need to do before the end of the day tomorrow, and I'm in that mode where thinking about those things keeps me from focusing on actually completing any of them.  Like I don't know where to start, you know what I mean?  Thus, my procrastination here.  Okay, I'm going to process some reimbursements.  That's an easy one on my long list.

    • Gold Top Dog

Tracy, sorry you're stressed about your to do list.  To take you mind off it, I thought I'd google the summer Olympic events for modern pentathlon since I knew it was similar to the biathlon.  Wow, these are the ones who will survive the apocalypse.  They do fencing, swimming, show jumping, and pistol shooting combined with a cross country run.  I'm tired just reading about it.

    It's nearly 5:00p. I'm outta here! Smile

Okay, I was just joking about there being a summer event!  That's incredible -- you're right about them surviving the apocalypse.  They go well beyond the good ol' fashioned triathalon of "only" swimming, biking, and running.  It's definitely exhausting to just read about it!

I crossed one of 4 major things off my list and will now try to make a sizable dent in the next thing.  I know it'll be a long day tomorrow, but oh well, job security and all that!
