    Thursday Chat

Well, it's here. The cold front is moving in and the temps are dropping. The local weather people are predicting it will get below freezing tonight!! *gasp* :) I hope the predicted 1/5" of snow doesn't happen. That would shut down the city completely. I hope those who are in the truly cold areas are ok and warm.

The sun has been out today, giving us the illusion of warmth.

I was asked the other day if I participate in any winter sports or activities. I said, "baking cookies."

Tina, you're a gold medal cookie maker.  :)

Sunny here too but not warm at all. Like you said the illusion of warmth. Baking cookies is a good idea, I like to make homemade ones for my pups sometimes, they love them. I have training session after work then staying home and chillin' with the dogs.

We are having some sunny snow showers here! Just enough to bundle up and catch snowflakes on your tongue!

Hi -- we're supposed to get more "cold" tonight as well.   I'm betting they close the schools tomorrow.  The kids here just don't have clothes for such cold weather - particularly if they have to stand  and wait for a bus.

The pug is NOT amused by the cold weather.  She's definitely a warm weather girl (altho she can't tolerate it when it is really hot).

I'm fine as long as it isn't "white and fluffy" outside - Jackie I'm with you.  No snow please..  back to work -- it's still just not giving me a break. (so who gripes about job security in this day and age?? I am shutting up)

Hi all it is -2 right now....burrrrrrr. We have begun the pre-conversion work. LOL, the count down is 2 work days, dadadaDAAAA! :) I think I am getting to old for this, I am having a brain dead moment.

Hi Gin, nice to see you!  Are you doing a work computer conversion thing?  *shudders*  Good luck with that. lol  Any time someone says the word conversion I cringe.

Brrrrr is right -2!  That's cold!  The wind is howling here and it is making me cold just to listen to it.  I think it's around 40 F here.  I guess no one feels sorry for me. :)  I bet my dogs will be loving it when I get home.  They love the colder temps.

DH is all moved over to the new location at work, which is the old location but in a different part of the building.  Confused? lol  He says the commute is easier but the lack of space is terrible.  They have computer systems everywhere.  On the floor, on desks, in hallways and he said he was thinking about putting some shelves in the bathroom since they're spacious.  lol They have a lot more work at this location and it seems everyone there has a broken computer.    He comes home pretty tired every day.

Tina, what a coincidence -- one of my favorite winter activities is EATING fresh-baked cookies!  Wink  There is something about winter that makes baking more appealing.  I guess it's the oven warming up the kitchen.

We've got bright sun today.  I know the ski resorts are suffering this year since our rainfall is so low (plenty of fog, but little precipitation).  And I know we'll have issues due to drought if this keeps up, but boy is it nice not to get wet every time we go outside!

Ginger, do you have a big system conversion underway at work?  I've been through a few of those in my day.  That countdown to the "live" date was always so stressful.  I remember when we went to an automated time and attendance system for 2,800 employees (after years of only paper time cards).  Our whole accounting department was set up in this "situation room" with the IT folks that night, waiting for the switch to be flipped for our first payroll processing.  We had food and drink and comfortable clothing on, ready for a LOOOONG night of processing any errors and whatnot.  I hope your conversion goes very smoothly, with few bugs or problems!

Jackie, office relocations are no fun.  I hope your husband feels settled in very soon. Sounds like he's got job security with those broken computers!

I would be all done with my 1099 forms, but I can't get two people to return my calls or emails requesting their tax ID info.  Yes, it's a bit late to be getting it now, but this happens every year.  My boss sometimes has to hire a sub-contractor "on the fly" for a project, and the process isn't as organized as it should be for setting up a new vendor in our system.

Yes we are doing a conversion, we go live on the 27th. I think it is going to be fine. They did a conversion in 2006 that was a nightmare. I was with a different area and we didn't convert. The support team this time is awesome. We will have 6 people in 2 locations helping us for a week. Not at all what happen last time. These folks have already been here once last month just to train and review. I think it's going to be fine, but we will see how smooth next week will be.

Tracy, just the mention of 1099 makes my head spin. I turned over my personal tax stuff to a local lady not too long after Ron was disabled. I am not a #'s person, that was a huge relief.I know I could probable do it myself but it gives me a headache. I have always admired people that were good with numbers. Me, I am a people person...and I can use a calculator or my fingers and toes which ever is readily available ETA: Did someone say COOKIES?

Our high today was 8 degrees.  Sunny, but a bitter, strong wind.  With the windchill it is 7 below.  Spring cannot come soon enough.

Work is work.  Life is life.

Tomorrow will be two years since we lost Michael.
