    TGIF 1-17-14

Anybody get a 3-day weekend because of Martin Luther King day? Not me.

I woke up at 2:00a and didn't fall back to sleep until nearly 5:00a. Ugh. Sleep And my throat is sore.

Hope everyone is warm and well.

No 3 day weekend for me, I wish! Not too bad here in PA today, nice and sunny about 27F. I passed out early last night busy day and evening, walked the dogs, worked out, did some house work then hit the couch. I hope you're not getting a cold! Have a good weekend everyone!

TGIF is right! This week has been l-o-n-g

I get a 3-day weekend and am really looking forward to it. Next week is really going to be hectic though and filled with travel in arctic temps and snow.

I'm getting my new door installed today so my boss let me work from home. I sent Neiko and Lily off to doggy day care and to get groomed so I only have Abbie at home with me to manage. She doesn't challenge the baby gate and is laying by my feet undisturbed by the racket going on.

The guy installing my door is the husband of an old college roommate and friend. I'm so glad to know someone like that to do these repairs. It sure beats having a stranger in the house and I know he will do his best.

Have you ever noticed that if you smile at your dogs, their ears will come forward? Try it! It's very cute :)

Yes I have a 3 day weekend and wow do I need it!!

I too, am work from home today. Always such a relief although when I am really tired I find it harder to keep pressing on than when I am at the office.

I was able to take B for a LONG walk - cold and sunny out and we both really enjoyed it.

Julie your thing about smiling at your dog reminded me of an exchange I had with Bugsy this week. He is SO amped up when I get home in the evenings when I have the stretches of LONG days and no breaks that he is a danger to himself and others. So one night he was really being a PIA and I wound up yelling at him, admittedly nothing ferocious but in a raised voice. His reaction? He wagged even harder and exaggerated the behavior I wanted him to stop. I have no idea how those of you with fairly soft dogs do it. LOL Then again having a dog that responded to instruction would be nice Wink

OK I do have a ton to do so I can have a nice long weekend!

hah yeah soft dogs are a trip. You can traumatize your dog for life with the littlest things. To this day, neiko and abbie go hide whenever I open the dishwasher because i used a shaker can ONE TIME! when Lily was climbing into it when I was trying to load it. Lily still gets into the dishwasher, she wasn't phased of course. And once when I caught Abbie peeing in the basement I yelled at her and told her to "GO OUTSIDE!!!" so now each and every time we go in the basement and come back upstairs, she goes straight to the back door with her ears back like "i'm ready to go outside now, sorry mom". Poor dog.

Cold and sunny ---- that sounds wonderful!  But we've got cold and foggy.

Tina, I hate those kinds of sleepless nights (or mornings, I guess).  Ugh!

I'll try the smiling thing with Ruby later today.  As for her reactions to yelling or corrective noises -- the first few times we used the shaker can when she incessantly barked at the fence, she cowered, but now it doesn't phase her, so I don't use it.  If she's amped up in a play frenzy, raising your voice can make her react like Bugsy.  I think she interprets our loud voices as a cheering squad since we sometimes engage in the frenzy by chasing her around the house after she takes the tug toy.  I guess she assumes loud voices mean fun things.  I'm sure it would be different if someone yelled with an angry tone of voice.

Yesterday I was at the "human grooming salon" Stick out tongue for the first time since before the holidays.  The gal told me they had to put down one of their dogs earlier this week.  She had what they thought was just an infected abscess on her hind end, but after failed treatments it was determined to be very aggressive cancer, and in a couple weeks it was clear she was in severe pain, beyond help.  They made the horrible decision to euthanize, and she told me how she and her husband spent their final day with her (including prime rib!), waiting for the vet to come to the house.  By the time my appointment was done, tears were shed by both of us -- she was only a couple days into her grief.  I'm always amazed at how a story like that can bring back all my raw emotion, so many years after losing Tonka.  I was in a blue funk the rest of the evening.  She's worried about her other dog, who is whining and looking for his friend.  Crying

On a lighter note, I watched a PBS special I'd recorded recently called "Unlocking Sherlock."  It included interviews with the creators and actors from the new version of Sherlock.  It was very interesting to hear the actors discuss their approach to the characters.  Season 3 starts Sunday --- I'm so excited!

Whew!  Is it 5:00 yet????  Where has Deb been with the cocktails.  What a week.

Tracy, I am sorry to hear about your salon friend, sending positive vibes for her and their other dog.   I am sure he is missing his friend.

LOL @Karen and bugsy   Last night Rocky laid his head in my lap, this is the "I wanna sleep on you lap mom" move.  I said no, hubby said no, Rock said  "Thank you and jumped :)  Needless to say,  I patted his head and gave him some hugs then made him get down cause after they should mind ....right? :)

Tina hope you get to feelin better.   Julie I loved the dishwasher story.  Glad you are getting your door fixed.

No 3 day weekend for me. DH has to work tomorrow. I'm getting my hair cut. I may go for a walk on the river tomorrow. It's going to be too pretty to stay home. Getting ready to go out to eat and have a few adult beverages. :)

Poo Bear went the night without messing his area.  Spent yesterday working with contain  inside, and outside immediately. Quick reward for poo or piddle outside. He also learned how to  use Pipers bed to get up on the bed and stick a cold nose in my face.  So cute, at 4:30 AM.

We are trying out different names to find one that fits.  Gunther just doesn't work, and I don't want to walk down the street calling "Guns" to come to me.  May Gus, short for Agustus (he has a good self image).  Satans son learned how to clear the gate the was supposed to restrain him, so the crate is now in use.

Got him some cold weather gear, and it is supposed to warm up tomorrow, so I think a run at the WMA is in order for the mismatched pair.  Puppy license is close to being revoked.
