    Monday Chatting for slackers

It's a gorgeous day here. Sunny and about 65F. :) The freezes last week took out a lot of my plants. Most of the perennials will return but they sure look sad right now. My coral honeysuckle, holly ferns and asparagus ferns are still green. My jasmine also survived without damage. I was worried about my baby fish in my whiskey barrel but they are all fine.

Cold and rainy here. The snow covering everything here is looking sad - it's so dirty right now. We won't see green anything for a while.

Yesterday's top headline in the local newspaper was: "Polar Vortex May Be the Cause of Higher Utility Bills". Really? You know you live in Podunk when that's the big Sunday headline and the deep freeze ended 3 days earlier. Confused

Sunny but very windy here.  Thought it was going to be a good day for the park at lunch but...guess I wont, way too windy.  My eyes are wanting to close  too much computer work this morning.

I don't get my hair done much.  I get it cut and donate to locks of love every 2 years.  I called my hair lady, lol, she said "Is it time already?" Ha!.  10" on wednessday, maybe I will loose 10 lbs?

Ahh 65! I wish, but I can't complain, nice and sunny here today, 45F. Actually took a nice walk outside for lunch today.

Wow -- not too much creative thought required for that headline, Tina!  You gotta wonder about local papers sometimes.  I often see pretty goofy headlines in our paper here, too.

Whenever I tell my Mom how much I wish I could be there to enjoy the snowfall when she's getting a storm in CT, she always reminds me of how crappy it looks a couple days later after everyone has driven or walked on it, cars spraying dirt all over the snow mounds, etc.  If only it could stay pristine and white and beautiful until it melts all at once!

Plenty of green here all winter (in fact, you're more apt to see brown/dead lawns in the summer when it doesn't rain if folks don't water them).  But the freezing temps we had in December did a job on many of our plants.  I won't dig them out yet, but I'm doubtful a few of them will come back.

Did anyone watch the Golden Globes?  I used to hate sitting through those long shows, but with the DVR (and the 3 hour earlier start time here), we can buzz through them in no time, zipping past the boring parts (like the endless walks to the podium).  I love Tina Fey and Amy Poehler as hosts -- so funny!  Some stunning gowns, but some clunkers, too.  Robert Downey Jr. sure looked handsome in his tux!

Hi -- nope I don't qualify as a slacker - neither the boss nor the other gal I work with are here - oh joy!!  That means it's all my fault, I get to fix ALL of it and MY work is still in the stack.  sheesh.

Tracy you make me laugh -- years ago when I took my then-husband (now the jerk ex)  home to western NY for Christmas. Oh my he was all wanting to move up there (grr) .. the day after Christmas my Dad drove all of us downtown to the "day after Christmas" sales and was letting all of us out of the car while he went and parked.  I dislocated 6 vertebrae trying to get out of the car and up ON the curb without having to step in the gutter.  He was grousing because I was slow and he plowed out of the car, stepping up to his calf in 14" of dirty slush which was all that was left from the "beautiful" snow storm of two days prior.

"What in )(*$# $ is THAT!" he yells at me.  I looked at him and said "That, Dear, is what *I* think of when someone says "Snow".    Funny -- right after that he stopped talking about moving up there!

Sorry to hear about your plants Jackie. What are the baby fish you have? Happy for them and you that they survived.
Your Mom has it exactly right Tracey. It takes very little time for it to look all crappy and then we have to deal with it melting in the spring and the mud we have as a result.
I watched the Golden Globes as well. I was only planning on watching it for an hour or so and then watched the whole thing. Just loved seeing some of the actresses in those beautiful gowns and being entertained by the ones in the "clunkers", as you have said. Lot of money in that hall.
We had a great victory in NY. Our Governor signed what has been called the puppy mill bill. Had been to Albany with groups and spoken to our representatives to encourage them to get this bill thru. We finally got it passed in the Senate and Assembly and then we've been waiting forever for him to sign it. He waited right up until the last day. What this bill does is allow local governments to make stricter laws, if they wish, than the state laws.

Not slacking here either. Just been really swamped all day and this is the first chance I've had to sit down. Still 45 here, but, don't hate us for our weather, the cold stuff is coming in and bringing it's buddy snow along with it. Blech. Ain't it just the greatest when no one else can be bothered to show up and then YOU catch slack for doing it yourself? I did the bridal show on Saturday....probably 80 vendors and tons of rabid brides to be...alone. I passed out info on our bridal issue and got scolded for not having biz cards for everyone else. Huh? the place was a mob scene and I'm going to mess around passing out the correct cards? I collected cards and distributed them to the reps for each territory and I thot that would be good enough. People HAVE the sell sheet, so I don't see what the big deal is, but, I'm just a peon...... I think the wine will be opened early tonite!

Today was an awesome 45 degrees and sunny. Just what the doc ordered for my afternoon walk to the coffee shop.

I didn't watch the globes but from all reports it was pretty good as far as award shows go.

I had someone say to me today 'you need to get some sleep little girl!' I tried hard not to get offended and just responded with 'do I look tired?' lol. Geez  must not be offended!  Seriously though I  tired so I guess I must look it too. Getting up at 6:30 just wipes me out and lately getting up before 8:30 is a struggle. I need a burst of magical energy pills or something. This winter is dragging me down.

Maureen - I did hear about that bill getting passed and was so happy. Thanks for doing your part to make it happen.

We have our 2 day annual conference going on today and tomorrow, so I felt obligated to show up this morning and say "hi" to everyone. Since I wanted to enjoy the buffet breakfast, I had to be there by 8 and got stuck in the downtown commute traffic. Man, I sure don't miss that. It was super nice to see some teachers that I talk or email with frequently but only see once a year.

The desk that we ordered for our home office arrived last week. Yesterday DH and I started trying to put it together. If has a bazillion pieces and twice that many screws of all different sizes with no notation on what they are. DH kept asking "which screws are we supposed to use for this?" and I'd hold up the instructions so he could see the picture. Oy - we didn't get too far but if we ever finish it, I think it'll look great ;)
