New Years Eve chat

    New Years Eve chat

Ah, so the year comes to an end.  Does anyone have great plans for tonight?

Thankfully this is DH's LAST day of having to work mornings.  His morning gal has been on vacation since last Tuesday and for him to get up at 3:45, do the air shift and then all of his own work, is really hard on him.  He doesn't sleep well when he goes to bed early so he's really dragging.

So odd to only have one dog all of a sudden. It's been many years since we were a one dog family.  Theo has been a bit droopy and depressed and even clingier than usual.  Poor guy.

I have a few clients that I need to see this morning, and then I'm off until Thursday.

Here's wishing everyone a peaceful day and a Happy New Year.

No big plans for me this year, just spending time with family and my dogs. Going to finish up at work today, I have a dr. appointment then heading for home for a nice evening.

I understand about having one dog, 3 years ago I had to put my Rottie down and it was just my Great Dane and me, the house felt so strange.

Have a great day everyone, most of all a safe and Happy New Year!

Wow, I did not expect to come to this forum and find an ad for "League of Angels", which I am assuming is a game, showing an ample amount of very realistic T & A. I'm no prude, but right on the home page? What happened to family friendly forum? I guess the almighty dollar trumps that.

I'm also having difficulty accepting friend requests. I got an email stating I had one, but when I followed the link and logged in, I was told I had no friend requests.

Buddy's thyroid test came back within normal range, so his other tests were accurate, which means he's probably got cancer. I need some time to absorb all of it and decide what to do, but at age 14 and with a bad heart, I don't know that I'll pursue any treatment. Sniffle.

((((Tina))))  You know I'm keeping you and Buddy in my thoughts.

I haven't had any problem responding to friend requests but maybe because I haven't gotten many. :)  I got one yesterday and was able to accept.

I'm not at the office today.

I missed the ad for League of Angels.  All I'm seeing now is Neiman Marcus and MD Anderson.  I hardly notice advertising.  I only noticed these two because you mentioned it.  Does seem odd to advertise something with lots of T&A displayed on a family type forum.  Money talks pretty loudly.

    @JackieG
    I hardly notice advertising

Normally I don't see them either, but this was a motion ad, like a little movie trailer, so it caught my attention right away.

Anyway, New Year's Eve plans - probably go to a friend's for a bite to eat and be home asleep by 9:30p.

I looked at that game's site.  Yeah, lots of bare skin and provocative poses.

No New Year's Eve plans here.  We stay home to avoid the drunk drivers.  At least it's not super dry so hopefully not too many fires from fireworks set off illegally.  It feels strange,  and somehow sad, not having to worry about Twister's fear of fireworks.

Geeeze!  I miss all the "good" stuff.  Ick!

I'm done and home for the day.  Will probably send out a few emails, but other than that, nothing much going on.

I honestly don't remember how long it's been since we've gone out for NYE.  I really have no desire to go out and mingle with a bunch of people who feel the need to get drunk.  I'm doing chicken picata for dinner and we'll have a glass of wine or two.  That'll be our big night.

Tina, you and Buddy are in my thoughts and prayers.  Poor guy.

    Happy Hogmanay!!

That's the Scots thing .. Hogmanay is the day before New Years.  Lots of traditional stuff (like house-cleaning but most of all "first footing" which involves  your first 'visitor' helping to bring "good luck" in the new year.  It's just fun stuff.

We don't seek out parties and the like -- but we usually "do" something.  Typically a midnight movie.      And particularly when there is something on re: Tolkein = so tonight we'll see the 2d Hobbit movie.   I had to search around to find a theatre showing it  at midnight that was NOT 3D.  *sigh*  -- David spied it over my shoulder and said "THAT one!!" - the dogs will get their dose of valerian & chammomile  because the neighbors are putz's --

Tina -- make Jonathan aware of that ad - I will as well.  Those banner ads aren't 'choice' -- there is a whole group of ads that are all "placed"  in a rotation.  But if several of us voice a problem with it, THEN they can go to the carrier and object strongly and say "X number of people have sent us written objections as this ad being inappropriate" and then usually they will pull it..  Most    advertisements on websites are that way -- even 10 years ago on the other little board I moderate (which wasn't so little back then)  was a vegan organization and one of the banner ads was for hot dogs or something and they were able to get the ad company to pull that ad as inappropriate and offensive.

I'm also showing everything in "flat" mode which makes it a lot less cluttered for me.

The thing I always wonder about ads on websites is --- do they really pay off for the company doing the advertising?  Speaking for myself, I have never purchased something (or even clicked on something) because of an ad I happened to see while doing something else online.  Doesn't everyone just ignore them?

Tina, I'm sorry to hear about Buddy's possible diagnosis.  Will they confirm it with an ultrasound or can they feel a mass in his abdomen?  Having to decide on a course of treatment (or not) on behalf of a beloved pet is such a difficult thing to do.  Even with the "facts" laid out in front of us, such as their age, overall health, our resources, etc., the decision is not just a black and white choice. Sending more good vibes to you and Buddy.

We'll have a relaxing evening tonight.  It's our neighbor's birthday today, so he and his wife are coming over for dinner.  This is the neighbor who is a fantastic cook, and we've had two delicious meals there in the past month, so it's our turn to host.  DH is a pretty darn good cook himself, but he can't quite match our neighbor's skill.  He's making braciole.  He made the marinara from scratch this weekend, so that will go over the beef and the polenta.  He's also making some kind of salad with apples and celery root.

We had a frozen pie ready to bake for dessert, but our neighbor called last night and said he wanted to bring over a hazelnut tort.  I told him he wasn't supposed to cook for himself on his birthday, and his response was:  "But I love to cook!"  I said, "Well, then bring it on over.  I'm sure it'll be better than frozen apple pie!"

Just spent the last 3 hours looking after a friends fostered saluki x while she went out. He is another ginger :) and soooooo soft and fluffy.

Nothing planed for just staying at home and distracting barley from the fireworks, nothing special

    • Gold Top Dog

still an hour to go until midnight here in england, waiting it out with the dogs, which are currently asleep, snoring loudly and running in their sleep (barley issnoring, puzzle is dreaming)

Happy New year to you and your pups, BarleyPuzzle!

I've got some New Mexico chile and pork stew on and I think some cornbread would be good with it.  I used some wild pig I was given by a friend.

Stay safe everyone and don't drink and drive.  The life you save may be your own.

Such a pain having to log in all the time...

    ((((Tina & Buddy)))

Going over to a friends house tonight.  They have a bunch of kids so Hannah and Aaron will have a good time.  Also, very close to our house, so not a lot of driving w/ the crazies.  Leaving work shortly to head that way.

*yawn*  I could totally go for being asleep well before midnight though.

Aaron said his first word last night.  Bye-Bye.  It was perfect, Hannah had just told everyone good night and as soon as she was out of the room, he waved and said "bye-bye" :D  We made him repeat it several times to be sure that it was intentional and not just coincidental that his babbling happened to sound like a word.  I was sure his first word would end up being something less pleasant, like poop, lol this is much better.

    Stay safe everyone!

    Happy nye!

    Thinking about buddy.

I am not doing much tonight. I turned down some invites because I have really been looking forward to a quiet night at home. I did meet up with some friends today for some dog training. It was entertaining when one of the girls got stuck in the snow and had to call for a tow truck. The tow truck got her out them he went on his way until she tried to drive up the icy Hill and couldn't get up it and had to call the tow truck back lol you might be asking why I find it funny. Sounds like a crappy experience right? Trust me though, considering who this happened to it was funny. Crazy stuff happens to this girl all the time.

It was dang cold out though. 14 degrees but the windchill was zero. I can't wait till spring!
