    Boxing Day chat 12-26-13

Oh I am seriously dragging this morning. Where is the caffeine IV?? I hope everyone had a great Christmas (or whatever you celebrate). Julie, did I get that right, you were robbed? While you were away? I hope everyone's ok with all the weird weather & cold. My sister-in-law phoned yesterday and it was -50.8 F in Quebec. ugh -- how do you even heat your house to zero when it's THAT cold out?

Me too.  With the dragging bit and needing the IV.  I think I started coughing around 3 AM so my sleep wasn't very restful.

Callie, it seems like much of the country is having brutal weather.  I guess we should count ourselves lucky here that we're just in the 20's today with snow flurries.

I thought I missed a Christmas Day chat thread, but then realized there were a few posts on the Christmas Eve thread yesterday.  Julie, I missed something . . . was your house broken into?  While you've been staying at your friend's house?  That is just awful!  I sure hope you didn't lose anything totally irreplaceable in terms of sentimental value.  The loss of non-sentimental items is upsetting enough!

I'm dragging today, too.  I think it's a combination of over-eating for a couple days, getting to bed a bit later than I should've on a "school night" and not sleeping soundly.

I swear I saw about a half dozen cars on my way into work today.  It's cold, VERY foggy, and no one is in the office yet but me.  I don't have to tell you how much I wish I were back at home snuggling with Ruby on the couch!

I must admit, I was glad that there wasn't incessant Christmas music on several of the radio stations as I was flipping through them on the drive in this morning.  We had a nice day yesterday -- tasty dinner with DH's mother, some long distance calls with family, and a nightcap and visit with friends in the evening.  But generally, I'm glad the holiday is behind us!

I'm sorry to hear of Julie's troubles. Some areas of Michigan aren't expected to get electricity restored until Saturday. I consider myself lucky not to be in these areas.

Xmas was quiet. DS worked, so I went back to bed after he went to work. I got a couple of gift certificates for massages; I'm thrilled!

Buddy does not seem to be improving. Missy, the other cat, is suddenly being nice to him (after 2 1/2 years of being a witch), so I'm very concerned.

Oh, dear -- poor Buddy.  Interesting that Missy is being kind to him.  She must be able to detect he's not feeling well.  Is he eating okay and keeping his food (and meds) down?

I got a massage gift certificate, too -- after standing at the kitchen counter and stove yesterday for a couple hours, I wish I had that appointment scheduled for today.  My back was "talking to me" all night, and still chatting this morning!

Tracy, Buddy isn't eating as much and although we've had no more puking, the meds are a struggle. The pills are liver flavored and chewable, but he won't eat them as he once did. I've crushed them and put them in his food, so he's getting some of what he needs. Pilling a cat is extremely difficult and when I tried to do it the other night, he struggled and even growled at me. He has never growled and been obstinate in the past; he's a very laid-back cat.. Sad

I've never had to pill a cat, but my friend's cat needs regular meds, and she's had to try all kinds of things to get her cat to cooperate.  It's stressful for my friend AND the kitty.   I'm sure it's very upsetting to see/hear him resisting so strongly when he's usually so mellow.

The pills are for a certain number of days, right?  I suppose it could be that he wouldn't show significant improvement until he's had a few days of the antibiotics . . . maybe it's not been long enough?  I hope it's just that the meds make him feel crummy with poor appetite.  Give him some chin scritches from me!

I'm sorry Buddy isn't feeling any better.

It's super slow at work and I'm super bored.  The forum used to be a source of boredom relief but these days there's not much happening except NDR and the random zombie post.  I  put that in there for Jonathan to ponder on.  lol

The dogs all got big stuffies for Christmas.  Belle soon had all of them piled on her dog bed.  She looked like a dragon guarding her stash.   Funny if it wasn't a good example of what a resource guarder she is.  :( Rex managed to sneak his away from her and took it in his crate to quietly de-stuff.  Gabby let Belle have her stuffie and went and laid on our bed with one of my slippers.  She didn't chew it up.  She's got a bit of a shoe and sock fetish.  Luckily she doesn't chew them up.  She just likes to have them.  :)

That's so cute about Gabby relinquishing her new stuffy for a slipper to cuddle instead!

Jackie, I know what you mean about the forum not providing much boredom diversion anymore.  I've had to resort to perusing the NPR website for some entertainment when I need a mental pick-me-up.  Now that's pretty desperate!  But, I did find a good article about the best movies and TV shows of the year, so I've got some things to add to my Netflix queue!

I've been meaning to post a question about a habit of Ruby's.  I'll go do that now so you can tackle that, Jackie!  Wink

Oh goodie!  I may not have any answers ,Tracy, but I can fake it with the best of them. :)

I might take off early since it's so dead here.  I'm sure once I leave the phone will ring because that's how that works. lol

Cute story about the doggy stuffing :)

It sounds like everyone had a nice Christmas. Did anyone get any good gifts? Or give good gifts that were a big hit?

I had fun watching my niece and nephew open their gifts. Now that my nephew is on meds he is so much more enjoyable. He is like a happy normal kid now. We had lots of fun together yesterday. I even felt bad for him because a number of times his sister would start things and he would get blamed. The old Liam usually was to blame but I saw each situation happen and sure enough his sister instigated everything. I hope his parents catch on so Liam doesn't continue to get blamed for being bad when he isn't.

The reality of my house being burglarized really set in today when I went looking to cost out replacement electronics. Ugh. Who has money to fork out for this stuff this time of year? Certainly not me! Hopefully my insurance company will pay out but there's still a $500 deductible. That's $500 more than I can afford to shell out atm. Those people truly are bastards. I hope they get caught.

The insurance guy said I will need to have the police report list everything that was taken. The trouble is that so many houses were broken into that the cops wrote just one report for the entire stream of break ins. So getting them to change the report for my house might be really difficult. I'm worried about that. At the time they didn't list anything because I wasn't at home.

I got an electric blanket for Christmas. :)  That's about as exciting as it got. lol

Julie, I'm glad you had fun with your niece and nephew.  Sorry your nephew  gets blamed when he's not the instigator.  I can't believe the police only made one report for all the houses broken into! I'm sure they were busy with a lot of emergencies during the bad weather/power outages, but really?  People need those reports for the insurance.  I am really sorry you're having to go through all that and I hope the asshats responsible get caught.
