    Wednesday Chat 11-20-13

I started to put a really old date on this thread but I decided to be nice. :)

Our weather is sort of gloomy but nothing really dramatic.  Saturday is supposed to be cold and rainy.  Great.  I'm supposed to meet with the trainer at an outdoor location on Saturday.

Yesterday DH got some good news and sort of bad news about his job.  Things have been in limbo for his department lately.  They officially announced the changes taking effect and his job is secure.  He does have to move back to the AFB as his entire department and the developers they support are moving over there.  He loves the location he's at now and the move is going to be a lot of work.

He hasn't really said much to me about it because he knew I've been dealing with my own worries with work for the last six months.  I feel bad that he hasn't said much about his anxiety and worries.  Last night he really opened up about a ton of work related things that I had no idea were going on.  He keeps a lot of stuff to himself and I have learned not to press him if he's not ready to talk but I had no clue he'd been so upset.  I feel selfish because I've done nothing but whine and moan about crap here at work while he was going through very similar emotions.

    @JackieG
I had no clue he'd been so upset.

Well its a good thing Mr. G decided to open up and get some stuff off his chest.  We sure dont want him getting down again.   It's unusual to me that a "man" would keep things in....I live with Mr. P and well....he could get a prize for whinnin.    You should not feel bad, I actually think its nice that he listens to your stuff too

Rumor going around that we might have some winter weather Fri. night and Sat.  It will be cold.  I guess if we are going to have weather I wont have to drive in it.

Friday night is our local town's "open house".  Prairie Grove Arkansas is a small older town that is home to the Battlefield State Park.  They have always had a couple of the older buildings downtown refurbed.  These are Antique shops and Flea Markets.  Well over the last few years it has grown and the shop keepers are doing a great job.  It has begun to attract tourist and shoppers from all over Okla and Ark .   This Friday will be the 3rd annual Christmas Open House.   All the shops will close today and tomorrow to prepare.  They will decorate for Christmas, have raffles, doorprizes, awesome unique gifts and treasures..  All the shops will open Friday and stay open until 9:00 p.m.   Its such great fun.  There are now 8 historic buildings that no longer have that boarded up empty look and they are reminder of how all the townsfolk used to shop in town.  I do need a date, Ron loves to go but cant do all the walking anymore.  Anyone going to be in the area?

Gotta get some work done today.  Have a good one!

Gin, MrG does plenty of whining about little stuff but he tends to keep the big stuff inside. I wish I could  come to the Open House with you.  Sounds like a lot of fun even for someone like me who doesn't like to shop. Window shopping in that sort of setting is a lot of fun. Seeing the historic buildings is always interesting to me.

I am not a shopper either but this is different.  There is always recycle, refurbed, vintage, antique, furniture,  piece goods, household items.  To me I just love seeing old turned new or recycled to a new use or even better still in excelant condition.  If I had the room, and the facility that would be something I would love to do.   I have updated some of my own stuff with tons more in the barn that could be done.  Ron and I have talked about cleaning out the barn so we would have room, but so far it's just talk, lol.

I'm going to agree with Gin that you don't have anything to feel badly about, Jackie.  When men are ready to spill, they will and not one second before.  Seems that they will moan about the small stuff, but the big stuff they hold onto.

Bright, sunny and rather chilly here today.  But, the sunshine makes it not so bad.

Funny, anytime I stop home for a second, like to use my own bathroom, the boss calls!  This time it was a conference call with a client, while I was ermmm, sitting there.  Geeze!

Gin, that sounds like soooo much fun!  And gosh, I'm really envious that you do all that stuff.....I've no time or energy to transform old pieces, but I sure do love them.

Back to work before the boss calls again!

    • Gold Top Dog

I never take my phone into the bathroom. I have a co-worker who does and it picks up every.single.sound. I tell him to call me when he's done; I do not need to get that personal with him. There have to be some boundaries, boss or not.

    Buddy is pretty stoic himself.

    • Gold Top Dog

Can conferences are just plain gross.

    Deb W.

    • Gold Top Dog

I assure you that no one knew where I was.  I was about ready to stand up, instead I sort of had to sit there.  I promise I do NOT answer the phone mid whatever!

    • Gold Top Dog

"Can conferences" -- that's a funny expression I've not heard before.  Since my phone is generally turned off at the bottom of my purse, I don't have to worry about taking or receiving calls at "inopportune moments."  Tongue Tied

Ginger, I wish I could join you at the open house in your town.  It sounds like fun.  I'm not a fan of "regular" shopping either, but I do enjoy looking at more unusual shops like you described, especially if they're in historical buildings.  Those kinds of places have really unique gifts and such -- not like the same ol' stuff you see in the average mall stores.

Jackie, I'm glad your husband's job is secure, but that's a bummer he has to move locations and has been internalizing so much stress and worry about work.  When it comes to his job, my husband is pretty vocal about the stuff that happens there, whether it be the minor, yet highly annoying crap, or the bigger issues that are more serious.  I guess that's something we have in common:  we both complain a lot!

A very unusual weather pattern moved in today.  It's sunny and dry, so I actually had to wear my sunglasses on the drive in.  But, it'll only be in the low 30's tonight, which is much colder than we generally have.  I don't care about cold, as long as it's sunny.  I do worry about my Meyer lemon tree in the pot on my patio.  I'm not hauling it inside (too heavy), but it's not meant for temps below 50.  Maybe I should rig up some kind of mini greenhouse with some plastic over it or something.

    • Gold Top Dog

Add my DH into the list of men who don't internalize anything. DH can go on like you wouldn't believe. I hope the move goes smoothly for him Jackie. I know you'll be very supportive now that you know what's going on.

Gin - I'd love to be your date Friday night. Sounds like it'll be really fun.

We moved into the new house at the end of June and last night was our first real rainfall. It was strange to think of as I sat there listening to the sound. Because of the super high cathedral ceilings, it sounded very different from our previous house but very pleasant.

We're having a tough time trying to figure out how to handle potty times for Shane now that it's rainy. We've always let him go out the door off the kitchen. It's a tiled deck though and having almost slipped once myself, I know those tiles are dangerous when wet. I can take him out through the side door of the garage but it leads out to dirt, so that's going to be messy and a hassle to get to. DH opened the big garage door this morning and let him go out front but I don't see me doing that early in the morning or late at night. I'm thinking of putting rubber door mats staggered across the deck. Anyone have better ideas?

MMMkay  be here by 5:15 and we will do the town :)  I also just found out the Library is doing a program and Santa's coming to town.  The local football team is in the state playoff's and it is a home game.,  Prairie Grove AR is going to be a happening place Friday night

Since I live rural and mud/dirt/leaves etc is just part of our lives I am not sure this is a good suggestion but what about some of those booties that you could take off when Shane comes in.  They look like they are rubber or something that might be slip resistant

    • Gold Top Dog

I thought about the booties but he's the type to just run out, pee and just run right back in. Probably even more so now that it's rainy outside. Might be an option though.

Cathy, the mats laid out on the tile reminded me of a great idea I heard once and wished I'd heard it when Tonka was still alive and he was having trouble walking on the wood floors in his  later years.

Someone (maybe it was here on the forum) said they used those thin yoga mats around the house on the areas of slick flooring where their elderly dog walked regularly.  They're  light, cheap, and easy to quickly roll up if you want to tidy up for company or something.  What if you laid a couple of them out on the patio along the " path" Shane would take?  You'd have to test one and make sure it wouldn't slip, but since they're rubber, I'd think they'd be okay.  And they could get wet, so fine for outdoors.

Can conferences lol! Great term. People do this all the time at work. I don't get it! It seems beyond rude.

Jackie I don't think you should feel guilty either. He had plenty of opportunities toaspill his work woes he just chose to bottle it up while that is not your method of dealing with things it doesn't mean it is wrong or you are insensitive to his problems and worries.

Today was beautiful here! I spent mosT of it indoors but when I did get out wow! I mean 50 degrees with no coat and eating outside? Very different than home. We are supposed to get snow tonight. And super cold temps tomorrow. We'll see. So far I am seeing they don't get the windchill or humidity laced cold we get. And speaking of no humidity! My nose isn't liking it. I had to go buy some saline solution. And I feel totally dried out. It must take some getting used to. What I don't like is the flatness outside of the mountains and the lack of trees. It'sodd seeing so much treeless space.
