    Sunny Sunday Chat (11/10)

Looks like another slow weekend on the forum. Hope everyone is out and about having fun or just relaxing and enjoying the time off.

I took Shane to a holiday photo fundraiser yesterday. I'd been asked to help out but there wasn't much to do nor much I could do with Shane with me. It was really warm and the table they had set up was in the direct sun. I was glad when Shane started getting antsy and I had an excuse to leave. I hope they made some $$ but they were charging $35 for 2 photos and that seems expensive to me. HB charges $20 and you get a ton of pictures.

I spent a few hours after I got home removing wallpaper backing and then took a nice nap and did some more. It was actually a really enjoyable day but I guess that shows how little it takes to amuse me ;)

Today I'm working on general cleaning but hoping to be finished soon and spend some time outside. We'll be in the mid 70s, so it's perfect for getting stuff done. We might get some rain on Tuesday and we sure could use it. DH is working this whole weekend and I always get a ton done when he's gone.

There's one huge wall where there's no textured paint underneath the wallpaper backing, so I haven't touched it yet. My BIL is going to stop by later today to let me know if it has to be removed anyway. We're hoping that we can just texture over it and then paint it. If not, it'll be more days of work for me, so think good thoughts for me.

Cathy, that wallpaper project sounds really tough.  I hope your BIL has some good advice for you.  Your weather sounds beautiful.

We're cloudy today with mild temps.  Wish I felt like getting outside to do something but I didn't get much sleep last night and I'm dragging through the chores that have to get done.

We went to see All is Lost yesterday with Robert Redford.  We've been on a movie going marathon lately.  This is one that I would say wait till it comes out on DVD.

I have to resist taking a nap or I won't be able to sleep tonight and work is going to be challenging this week.

Thinking of all the veterans who served our country and their families.

Cathy, that wallpaper project sounds exhausting!  I think I would've given up and hired some helping hands by now.  You are an industrious gal!  :-)

I'm very envious of your 70 degree weather.  However, we have no rain here (still real relatively grey skies).  DH's niece and her husband arrived Friday night.  We're going to Corvallis today (home of Oregon State Univ) to visit a couple brew pubs today, so it'll be nice for strolling downtown.

Yesterday we went to a dedication ceremony for a memorial peace garden at our local shelter. We got a memorial brick on the path for Tonka and an honorary one for Ruby.  Someone read a beautiful poem by Mary Oliver that was very fitting.  It's called "In Blackwater Woods."  The last 3 or 4 lines are especially meaningful for animal lovers and shelter workers.  I cannot figure out how to add a link from this dumb iPad ...... But I suggest looking it up.

jackie, I wanted to see that movie, but prefer to save $10.  Thanks for the DVD recommendation!

Cathy, years ago when I had ancient wallpaper to remove, and I'm talking paper, paint, paper, paint, etc, I rented a steamer and it took all that mess off.  Still a lot of work, but worth trying.  For that very reason I would NEVER paint over wallpaper.  Our last house someone just painted over it too and was very unattractive, but it wasn't textured and that would have helped...but very difficult to clean.

Blech, gray and dreary here and it feels like that nasty S word.  Cold too, and I'm not fond of being cold.  Just started a big pot of boiled dinner.  So very nice to be able to cook on a stove again.  The propane stove in our last house was new when we moved in, but not set properly so I never could simmer anything on the darned thing because no matter how low I set the flame, it was still way too high.

Ummm, does anyone else have three block blue boxes where the post box is supposed to be?  I just guessed which one to select!

Tracy, I just read that poem.  Very, very moving. I cried a little for Twister and all the dogs we've all lost and miss so much. I'm sure the ceremony for the memorial garden was very emotional for you.

Glenda, I see the same dark blue mystery boxes but I can just barely make out the writing though it's very faint.

That is a beautiful poem and gave me goosebumps. Thanks for sharing it Tracy.

I did my research before removing the wallpaper and everything I read said a steamer wasn't necessary. I've been heating water in the microwave, putting it in a spray bottle and then going to town with it. I wait about 15 min's and the paper is blistering and if I'm lucky, I can pull a good sized sheet off. My neighbor gave me the info on a company they used to remove their's and in 2009 it cost them $3000+. That's when I decided that I'm in no hurry and will just take my time and do it myself. The biggest challenge is the high ceilings. I've already told DH he'll have to tackle that.

I can barely see the print in the blue boxes too. Hmmm....

That's some project you have Cathy, with taking down the wallpaper. I'm thinking good thoughts for you, so that you don't have to do all of it.

I've got those blue boxes too. First one says Post Reply, next one Use rich formatting and last one says Cancel. I'm taking it those are the boxes that are being talked about. Yup can barely see them.

I'm still not used to this new forum and things are still often slow for me. Does anyone know if they've finally got everything done and that this is the finished product? Sure wish they had dates on each post, the way it used to be. Cathy, you have the right idea putting the date in, when you start a new post. Will have to remember that.

Have some dark, stormy weather here today, the kind of weather that makes you think it won't be too long before the snow flies. Wishing I was still down in Louisiana or some other southern state or any state that doesn't get snow.

Had a great trip to the National Agility trial and then on down to Louisiana, to see my brother and family who we hadn't seen in 12 years. Had a great time.

Apparently there is an announcement "pending" so not likely everything is done.

If I put my nose to the monitor and squint REALLY hard, I can just make out lettering in the boxes~

Maureen, I saw your other post about the agility trial, bit I didn't see a link.  I'm having the same issue with the three blue boxes with barely legible words, so maybe I'll have better luck seeing your videos when I use my PC tomorrow.  Things seem odd when I use the iPad here sometimes (probably old fogey user error!).

I'm glad you liked the poem, Jackie and Cathy.  I got very choked up hearing it yesterday and heard some sniffling in the crowd around me.  I don't know how the woman who read it aloud to us kept her composure.  I'm not at all well-read when it comes to poetry, but once in a while I come across a poem that really does resonate with me, and that was one of them.
