@shadowsgin
Even before they could write she would put a crayon in their hand and they would scribble :).. I have a few of my own grandkids that dont bother to even call. Call me a bad Grandma but after several years of that, they also quit getting gifts.
Ginger, I don't think you're a bad Grandma; I think stopping the gifts is a perfectly reasonable response to continued lack of gratitude or appreciation!
As for the crayon-scribble notes from very young children: I've got several in my "keepsake" drawer. My friend's kids always sent us scribbles and drawings, and she'd write, "Thank you for the books!" (or whatever the gift was) for them. She'd also write what the drawings were supposed to be, because often they were not obvious to us! :-)
One of my favorite drawings is hanging on my bulletin board over my desk at home. Our friends' daughter painted a picture of Tonka for us, with clouds and a sun overhead. She was about 4 at the time. I love it.
Tina, you're in good company with the nodding off to sleep early-ish in the evenings. It happens rather often in our house, too. Be glad you were only sending a text. More than once, DH has been holding a cup of coffee, watching TV, nods off and then jolts awake with an arm jerk, spilling coffee everywhere. One time when I was in high school, my Mom fell asleep in her recliner while reading a textbook from her night class, and she was in the middle of highlighting something . . . the yellow line dragged down the whole page and made a big yellow blob where it stayed until I came in and woke her!
I better get back to my tasks . . . I have a lunch date with my former coworker, so I have to ready to leave right at 1pm. She finally found a new job (since last December), so we're celebrating today!
