Doctor Visit Today

    Doctor Visit Today

Had to go see my family physician today, part of follow ip from being in hospital 12 days.  Gotta to see the kidney doctor on the 8th, the heart doctor on the 10th, and back to family doctor on the 14th.  Seems I am always at doctor's office.

He had gotten full report and copies of all lab work, x-rays (they x-rayed my chest 3 times because of the bronchitis), etc.  Anyway he told me something I had not known--he said I was almost dead when I arrived in the Er due to all the toxins in my blood because of failing kidneys.  Had I not gone when I did, I might have been dead by morning.  Hubby said from now on he isn't ask if  I need to go to the hospital, he is calling 911.

Anyway, he said where I had the catherter healed nicely and I can take a shower tomorrow.  YIPPPPP< not had a shower in 3 weeks.  Was told not to shower until the bandages were off--wet bandage could cause or spread a very bad infection.  so, as in hospital, I was using that no rinse soap stuff and that is NOT a bath nor shower.

In the hospital my thyroid meds had been upped a little, and my diabetic meds were changed.  The doctors thought the Metformin, which had been doubled 6months ago, was partly at fault and took me off it and put me back on the glipizide, and cut my Januvia in half.  I had been taken off the glipizde when my metformin was doubled.

The doc said he would love to take me off the one blood pressure med I am on but knows the heart doctor is keeping me on it for my heart and I do need it.  Is jut a light dose, but my BP tends to run low and even a light dose doesn't help.  Today in his office my BP was 95/55.

((( Sandra ))) I agree with your husband. It is so scary that you were close to dying. I'm so glad that you're recovering well. It's not fun to have so many doctor visits but that should taper off as you get better.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Sandra, I'm glad to hear that you're healing well and that you'll be able to take a shower.  There's nothing like a warm shower to make one feel nearly brand new.  Going without one for 3 weeks must've been awful.

I agree that it's better to be safe than sorry when wondering about going to the ER or calling 911.  But I understand wanting to avoid it if possible.  Part of it is denial that something major is wrong, but I think we prefer to avoid sitting in an ER waiting room for hours or having emergency responders come to our house when maybe it's a false alarm.  But that's what they're there for, so we should call them without hesitation.

Take care of yourself -- sending you more healing vibes.  I was glad to hear that you've done some Halloween decorating, but take it slowly!

My Blood pressure was 70/40 when they arrived and stayed low.  When we got to the ER I was taken straight back and IV started, blood drawn, etc. at once.  Had people hovering over me all night because my BP stayed so low and maybe otherlsgave me 2 pints of blood.  Seems my body does not make enough blood.  Had 3 pints up in San Antonio when my heart stopped and I was flown up there.  A hematologist was called in and she ordedall kinds of x-ays, ultrahounds, tests, etc and all came back fine.  So decided it had something to do with my having rheumatoid arthritis.  I don't under stand it, but that is what she said.

And actually I did not feel "almost dead."  Just couldn't seem to stand and walk and felt very weak, but not actually sick.  However, dialysis made me throw up several times.  Also made my potassium level far two low and I had to take 2 tables, followed by one a few hours lter followed another a few hours later--4 times what I would nrlmally take for low potassium.  They adnusted the machine and put potassium in the  chemicals added to my blood during dialysis and no problem after that.  I had not realized they were adding anyting tomy blood other than heprin to keep my blood thin.  Was not taking the meds I take at home--getting insulin for my diabetes ratherthan my pills.  Was getting my cholesterol pill but that was all.

Gosh Sandra, you really DID almost check out on us.  Please do take it easy and know that we are praying for you!

Sandra --  we truly come from the same kind of people -- "if you aren't dead you don't need an ambulance" ... but honestly that's just being wrong-headed -- LET him call the ambulance next times.

There are things where you just plain need to go to the doctor -  kinda like we KNOW with our dogs if they are at all lethargic -- or just "off color" -- they need to see the vet.

US TOO!!!  Glad your husband is being protective!!!!  *hugs*

Yes Sandra just as Callie has explained.....we take our dogs if they are off color or lethargic or just looking very not right for a certain time period, soooo we should all be taking care of ourselves the same way. Glad hubby is watching over you and will make sure you get to the hospital if you need to. you certainly did come close to checking out on us. Take care of yourself. Will be thinking of you.
