    Mindless Sunday

My suitcase has lily and neiko worried. Abbie is oblivious. Gonna need a nap today but where will I find the time?

    Will the Paint program help?

Karen - I'm so happy that Bugsy showed everyone what a superstar he is yesterday. I wish I could've been there too.

We were nonstop busy yesterday with outdoor projects. The little chipper arrived and for the price and the size, it does a pretty darn good job. I cut branches small enough to fit into it and DH kept feeding it. We made a nice dent in the pile of tree trimmings. Probably just too much bending and squatting but I woke up with a very sore knee. Since I have a lot more I want to do today, I'm hoping it loosens up.

I was worried that out temps would start to rise before my friend got here but it looks like they're going to stay nice. Yay!!

A couple of guys showed up yesterday to put the tile in the spillway between the pool and spa. I could tell that the younger man was afraid of Shane, so I kept him close to me. Eventually, I realized that Shane seemed to sense that neither of them wanted him around and he'd just lay down about 20 feet away and calmly watch them. He's usually overly friendly, so it was strange but pleasant to see him so intuitive about the situation.

It's too hard in paint because I can't just dump the paint bucket for the color I want on it. I think I need to just magnetic lasso it, select it that way, then dump the color I want on it. I must have had a program to do that when I made my sig bar, cause I had to mag lasso the dogs off the backgrounds they were on.

Cathy, I hope your knee feels better soon.  Yay for the temps staying nice while your friend visits.  I think some dogs are intuitive or whatever you want to call it about whether people want to interact with them.  Good boy Shane.

I've done the grocery shopping, set some cat traps and gotten a start on the laundry.  I'm heading back out to check the traps and go to the shelter to walk dogs before it gets too hot. I haven't had time during the week lately to go to the shelter on my lunch hour.

Julie, good luck on finding that extra time today.  I hope your allergies aren't as bad.

Cathy I hope your knee feels better soon and the temps stay nice. Shane you are awesome, what a good boy. B isn't too 'intuitive' regarding that sort of thing but I do recall once we had a work mate of DH's over, the guy was a State Trooper and a big dude. B was his normal overly energetic and inquisitive self and when he got into the guy's space, the guy gently but assertively pushed B's head away and that was that. Never happened before or since. I suppose you'd say the trooper was excellent and claiming his space :)

Good Lord this humidity is awful. Thought we'd have a break because we had some violent storms last night but no such luck

I had plans to have the house cleaning finished by now but we had a loss of power for several hours and my whole day is thrown off. I decided to sort through some clothing while the power was down and wound up getting over involved in that.

    So off and running

Jackie you should try to get something done on Sunday mornings Wink

Jen not sure if Picasa can help - it links to an online editing tool

At one point, I thought the guy might jump in the pool if Shane ran towards him. I could just see him staring at Shane and not listening to what his coworker was saying. He didn't speak much English and I didn't think it'd matter if I told him Shane was friendly. Although I've never been afraid of dogs, I have a lot of respect for those that do.

Jackie - where are you setting the traps?

Karen, you'll be all about the Sunday chore marathon soon. Sad  Makes you glad to go back to work sometimes.  Nah, that's not true.  I usually manage to fit in something I enjoy on the weekends because what's the point of working if you can't enjoy when you're not?

Cathy, there's a mobile home park that is overrun with feral cats.  That's where I've been trapping.  I catch at least one cat everytime.  I caught a female Siamese this time.  I wish I could trap this one grey tabby male.  He fathers a ton of kittens in this mobile home park.  The TNR class wasn't Friday after all.  It's this Tuesday so I guess I'll go.  It's three hours and I can't imagine what will take three hours.  I may have to skip out early.

I walked some dogs but it was so hot that I couldn't do much with them.  There is a new dog at the shelter and I am trying my best to get him off my mind.  He's a terrier mix, tri color, young male.  He is adorable. Oh please let him be adopted next time I go.  He's so cute and friendly I'm pretty sure someone will take him home.  Pray for me. lol

ETA to add some more mindless info.

Prayers that the adorable terrier that's tugging at your heartstrings is gone next time. I know the feeling well. :)

Are the cats being spayed or neutered and released back or ?

Color me proud but I managed to move 2 huge potted hibiscus bushes from the side of the house to the back deck area. I'd been hoping DH would do it for the longest time but he truly has had more than his fair share of work and it wasn't a priority. Since he's working, I decided I'd try to do it myself and surprise him. I used a crummy dolly he has and rolled one at a time. It wasn't easy and I was sure I'd either wrench my back or dump and break the pots. I had to go over bricks, then pavers separated by grass and then just grass....not fun!! But once I got them both moved, I was patting myself on the back big time.

Does anyone know how to get rid of Bermuda grass in the flower beds? The runners go on for ages and when I pull the weeds up, I'm just breaking off a piece. I about cried when I saw an area I hadn't paid attention to for awhile. Why do stupid weeds grow faster than anything? :(

Yes, to the first.  Trap, Neuter, Release.  I can't say I'm completely in agreement with this concept but the shelter I volunteer for is basically no kill and they won't euth a "healthy" animal.  Some of these cats appear ill to me or suffering from skin and eye problems. They receive no veterinary treatment as far as I know.  They are vacc'd for rabies.  It's not ideal but many people wouldn't allow the trapping if the cats were killed.  These cats are almost all feral though a few "pets" probably get caught inadvertently.  I'm making fast friends with an older woman who calls me when I've trapped a cat near her house.  She says she sees people drive through the mobile home park and toss out cats.  She said the other day a man drove in, opened the trunk of his car, and out jumped two dogs. He quickly drove off before she could get his license plate number.  Asshats are the ones who create these problems but all of you guys know that and share my anger.

Way to go on the big pot move, Cathy.  Sounds like hard work and I surely would have lost at least one and had a big mess to clean up.   Try some Round Up on the Bermuda.  Put some in a container and use a small brush to apply just to the grass you want to kill.  Bermuda never grows where you want it and thrives where you don't.

Send the Bermuda grass my way - our 'lawn' is a mix of darn near everything but the only thing that thrives, in a normal summer, is Bermuda. It does have the craziest runners imaginable so Jackie is 100% correct on brushing it on

We had two more power outages - I am so glad that our guest are two young women and don't arrive until late tonight. I guess due to the power outages the water was horribly rusty for a while - seems better now.

I can't decide whether to increase my with-holdings or just go with standard, shrugs. Also how can I decide how much to put into what account if I don't know what my take home will be? or even how often I'll be paid. Guess I'll have to wait on some of these docs until a phone call in the morning

I spent more time with the power down going through my clothing - there will be some finely dressed people in Raleigh LOL

    Cathy, great job!!

I wanted to work outside some but it didn't happen. Add it to tomorrow's list

LOL Jackie I will most definitely be on the weekend chores soon - but happily. I was doing them while constantly thinking and working towards how I would earn my next bit of money. I need to post something on my website I suppose saying I am on a hiatus, I don't want to attract clients and this is when they start calling. I am sooooooooooo looking forward to weekends and evenings being about what I want and not feeling the stress of drumming up business

    Ribs for dinner tonight

That's no fun.  I know it was always something on your mind and also the feast or famine nature of being self employed is stressful, even when it's feast time.  I hope your power stays on.  We've had some rain showers popping up all around but nothing at our house. Drought or flood.  Seems to be a theme. lol

I asked DH to dust today.  I didn't realize he's never really dusted the house.  He's dusted off a computer desk or something like that on occasion but never the whole house.  Watching him was painful. lol  At one point he asked if there was some other chore he could do because dusting was the worst chore ever. lol  Yeah buddy, just keep dusting.

Well he definitely figured out its an awful chore real quick! Just wait until he realizes that it will be dusty again tomorrow Sad

    Ribs were very good

Cathy, I think there's some sort of stuff that supposed to kill grass/weeds but be safe for flowers and other stuff. Check in the nursery section at Home Depot, Lowes or Ace. Right now weather bug says it's 88 and that's pretty good considering it's 4:30. I don't imagine it will be getting much hotter before the day is over. Joyce

I did find something that kills bermuda grass but not everything else. Pricey but worth it if I don't have to spend oodles of my time bent over pulling the stuff up.

Jackie - I laughed at the visual of Charles dusting. Kent hasn't ever done it either and would surely make me regret asking. Dusting was my chore when I was a child and I remember my older sister saying I managed to dust without ever moving an object...I'm still pretty good that way ;).

I worked way too hard today and the 2 days prior and I'm tuckered out. I realized tonight that Shane only has a little over a week's worth of heart meds left, so I called that in to Costco. That's a trip I wasn't planning to make this week*sigh*
