DNA Breed Testing

Does anyone have experience with DNA testing to deterime a dogs breed lines. We have a mix breed and I am curious to know the breeds that make up our dog. Someone mentioned to me that this is a good thing to know, can help with health problems later on in the dogs life as well as knowing possible temperment issues that could come up.

I see there are some services offered via the internet, just wondering if anyone has used a service that performs this test.

Don't waste your money. Those tests are notorious for being inaccurate. Just one example- I know someone who has a dog that looks like a Chow mix. She did the DNA test, and it came back as the primary breed being Papilion! The only thing Pap about this dog is her markings.

Thank you for this comment, I was wondering why they ask for a photo of the dog. Since the test should tell, why do they need a visual.

I highly recommend it. I used Wisdom Panel a few months ago for my shelter girl and think they were dead on. My pup is a 50/50 mix though - it makes sense to me that the result would be more accurate than if she were a Heinz 57.
