    Wow, social media does work!

I just made contact with a long lost cousin, whom I haven't seen for close to 45 years!  That is mostly because I've lived all over the country.  She was keeping in contact with my Mom, but then we aren't sure what happened, but she stopped calling.  I happened to be thinking of her and wondered if she might be on FaceBook.  She was fairly easy to find because of an unusual last name, and lo and behold it was her!

    Anyone else have that happen?

We didn't really find someone, but the main reason I keep in close contact with my cousins in Italy is because of Facebook.  My 2nd cousin has a daughter that is Riley's age (they are a couple months apart) so we talk more now than we ever would have if not for Facebook.  The translate feature makes it easy for me to read her posts and vice versa.

My husband found his daughter who we hadnt seen in over 9 years on there and also his brother who most of his family thought was dead because of the life style he lead and no one had hear from him in like 18 years

cool Marty :) I hide from most of my family on FB. Personally. ;) FB is for people I CHOOSE...to be in contact with. LMBO.

That's great that you have been able to connect with a long lost cousin. I've tried to find a person who stayed with us my senior year of high school...many long years ago. She was a foreign exchange student from Peru. I've not yet been able to find her though. I don't know why we ever did lose touch with each other. Anyway, it's good to hear someone has been able to connect that way.

FB makes my head want to explode ... literally.  But I did manage to find some cousins I didn't know I had by putting an ad in the Claxton, GA newspaper.  I strongly suspect I'm related to most of the population there. Smile

I dont use FB much but was put together with an old Beau by someone else on FB which was awesome because I had been told that he had died in a car accident in the 80's.  Kinda freaked me out when he contacted me by email but we now keep in touch every few months.

Also found my Grandson who I hadnt seen since he was 5 and was now an adult with a wife and child. :)  He was very happy to hear from us although it could have gone the other way too.

Social media is really helping get dogs adopted.  I'm now involved in rescue and my last three foster dogs/cases were adopted to people who saw them first on Facebook.  Last week we were able to get a senior dog whose owner passed away unexpectedly out of a boarding kennel and adopted in about 12 hours.

Because I moved so frequently for decades I have friends all over the world and am remote from all family members, FB keeps me connected in a way nothing else could.

Also as Lies said it is an incredible tool for animal rescue, I can't do much for rescue but I have helped connect dogs to people or transport etc. which highlights the networks we all have through places like this forum.
