Have any advice? Peppermint Oil Problem

I had a bottle of peppermint oil that got knocked over and busted in one of my kitchen cabinets.  Unfortunately, it sat there soaking in the wood for long while.  Don't ask.   Embarrassed

Anyway, any advice on how to get this extremely strong oil smell out of the wood?  I've tried using Lysol wiped.  No go.  I tried using soap and water and letting it soak (without wiping it dry).  No go.

Any ideas on how to get it out?

I can't even have Lysol in the house I'm so allergic to it.  ugh

Are you talking about peppermint oil as in food flavoring or peppermint oil the 'essentil oil'??

if it's the food flavoring I'd put maybe 1/2 c. of baking soda in a plastic 'dry' measuring cup. Put a piece of paper on top of it and invert that whole thing over the spot and then just carefully pull the paper out from under it and LEAVE the measuring cup of baking soda there.  Leave it like that for a week and then pull the whole thing forward onto paper towel and dump it down the sink (it's great for de-greasing drains too).

Leaving the plastic measure over the top should contain the odor so it absorbs better into the baking soda.  You'd better warn family members NOT to just pick that up out of curiosity or it will be a mess.  But it should pull the odor into the soda.

Its the essential oil.  Do you think the baking soda idea you have here would work with this oil as well?

I would going to suggest baking soda, too. You might try wiping the area with a Dawn solution first--that might help break up the oil. (Just a thought--never tried it, but they use Dawn on oil-soaked animals.)

Should but it will likely lift the finish of whatever is under it. (the oil not the soda)

It will dissipate in a surprisingly short time in any event -- I run around with it ON me most of the time.
