    I'm Baaaaaaaack

I have been in hospital and nursinghome/rehab. Long story short. Walking thru garage Wed. Sept. 12 and for no reason went down like a ton of bricks. Hubby took me to Er in local hospital, x-rays showed broken hip. They got hold of the bet hip doctor in Corpus and got it set up for him to do the surgery and got me into the big hospital over there. Wanted hubby to take me in our car, but they said NO, a bone shard could puncture that big vein in my leg and I could bleed out.

Doctor did the surgery the next morning. Was not sure til he got in there exactly what all would be needed--partial hip replacement, scres & plates, etc. But he decided to just "screw" my bones back together.Started in-room therapy and walking the net day. Doc figured I would be there for like 4 deays and then transfer over to the re-hab at the hospital for intensive therapy. But came along so well that I did need that hospital therpay and they got me into a nursinghome/rehab on Monday Sept. 17.

They figured 3 weesk there and then 2-3 3 weeks of home therapy. But again, I progressed so fast they said I was ready to comehome, so came home today. In home therapy starts Monday and they figure I will only need about a week of it.

Go in on the 22ed for x-rays and then to doctor on the 29th and he will make sure it has healed like it should. If not, I guess another surgery. But i walk pain free, and in fat, yesterday in therapy they had me walking around the therapy room dribbling a ball---no walker even, just the belt around me in case I stumled, etc.

Son came over and too pictures when I was in hospital (awful pictures), and then at in the therapy room while I was doing therpay. They are not great, but okay. Got a hair cut while in there and had it cut real short.

Honey was so glad to see me. Hubby took off work--well, he would go in a couple of times of week and do a little loacal work so they didn't hav to fill out all thoe family leve papers. He said Honey almost drove him nuts. Stuc to him like a tick on hounds back. I am always here with her and he is on the road and I guess she couldn't understand where I was for 2 1/2 weeks.

Anayway, came in and she was licking my hankds on my walker and as soon as I saw down, kisses all over the face. and she has really kept her eyes on my. Guess she doesn't want me to "get lost" again.

One picture is of me standing and doing
sice kicks" with weights on my ankles, and the other isi "riding a floor bike" I even got one at Wal Mart for here, not only for the therapy, but it is good exercise and good for the heart as well.

Oh, by the way, the doctor said that dep[site people saying "she fell and broke her hipe", it is usually the other way around--the hip breaks and that causes the fall. He is sure that is what happened to me.
There was another woman in there who was just standing in her kitchen and went down. Hip broke causing the fall. Strange isn't it.

    Sandra,

What an ordeal! I am so glad your recovery is going well! How interesting about the break causing the fall-I hadn't heard that but it sure does make sense. Good thoughts for your continued great progress.

Oh my gosh, Sandra!  I'm so glad recovery is going well.

I've heard that the hip just breaks.  It's not a tiny little fragile bone, so you've gotta wonder about the why of it.

Good thots for getting back to 100% fast!

Yikes Sandra! That must've been very scary when it first happened but it sounds like you had some great care and are doing really well. I hope the rest of the recovery goes smoothly.

I've heard that the hip just breaks.  It's not a tiny little fragile bone, so you've gotta wonder about the why of it

It's usually because the bone density has lessened to the point that it is fragile.  It's a good idea to have a bone density scan every few years or however often your doctor recommends. Post menopausal women are more at risk than men but men should have their bone density checked periodically too.  Weight bearing exercise is recommended to build bone strength and smoking contributes to bone loss so another reason to quit if anyone needs one more reason to quit.

Sandra, I'm so glad you're doing so well and I too am glad you weren't home alone when it happened.  Lots of good vibes for a full recovery.

Thanks all.  Not onlhy am I happy that I am progressing so fast, I am happy my Honey girl is back to normal.  I think she was very confused as to what was going on.  Hubby has been gone mot of the time ever since we got her and she is use to him being gone 2 weeks at a time, home a few eays, then gone again.  However, he is not running as much now tht he is semi retired.  But he is still gone about 1/2 the time.

Howeer, I am alwasy with her.  She saw me go out the door that day-----and not come back and I think she was distressed becuae she ddint' understand why I didn't com bacvk like I always do.  In the winter she sleeps on th bed, but at the foot.  In the summer, she sleeps on the floor.  However, all these 2 1/2weeks I was gone she slept glued to Jerry' like a tick on a hound's back.  He couldn't get comfortable becaue she crowded him so much.  and during the day if he stopped she would actually run into the back of him, she just stuck with him.  He even had to let her come in the bathroom with him.  He hated to leave her to come see me and I hated for him to leve her even for an hour.  I knew she was stressed.

When I came in, she was leery of the walker, but still had to walk beside me licking my hand and when I sat down had tolick my face.  She did stick pretty close to me yesterday, but today she has acted normla--no more being right on either of our heels, spending time on the patio alone, sleeping in the dining instead of at our feet, etc.    Felt so sorry for her, but now all is well with her.

Sandra, I'm sorry to hear about your fall and everything you've been through -- but I'm really glad to hear that you're back at home where you're more comfortable (and back with Honey!) and that your recovery has been going so well.  As others said, it was good that you weren't home alone.

Sending lots of healing vibes to you -- I hope your recovery continues to go well and that you feel stronger and more stable each day with your "bionic hip."  Wink

I'm sure that Honey will be an excellent nurse -- giving you plenty of affection and monitoring your progress.  Even though it was upsetting to know she was stressed during your absence, it's sweet to think of how much she loves you and how she missed you!

Sandra my goodness, so glad to hear that you are better.   Good for you with your speedy recovery.   My daughter is 37 and will be having hip replacement next month.  We have been told that the hip surgeries have gotten so much better and that the recovery times are a lot better.  Your news is very encouraging :)  Keep up the good work, lots of good vibes coming your way.

Give Honey snuggles for being such a good girl while you were lost.
