I am so fortunate! (kpwlee) sea turtle release

Earlier I decided to go for a walk on the beach. At the end of the resort's beach is a caged area that is full of sea turtle eggs. They are removed from the beach and reburied in this area, safe from birds, etc. Each clutch (if that is the right term) is marked with a date and type of turtle (best guess). At this time of the year, there are hatchlings nearly every night, including tonight. As luck would have it I arrived as they were collecting hatchlings, in order to release them. About 20 people turned up to release them and I just happened to be there! So I got to release 3 teeny babies, over 4 hrs later and I am still giddy. I LOVE turtles and they have special meaning for me so to do this is so far beyond words :). Paige many, many years ago I had a dream about hatchling turtles and I was scurrying to save as many as I could, tonight echoed that dream. Seriously I am so giddy it is ridiculous. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CFes9lizfg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrArPO1leto&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Karen, that is SO cool!!!  I can't imagine seeing that first hand.  No wonder you're giddy!  To be that close to that basket of all the little baby turtles moving around must have been overwhelming.  I've seen that process on TV shows.  Witnessing it and participating like you did would surely be a profound experience.

Thanks for posting your videos here!

Great stuff!  So happy for you to have this experience.  Thrilled that you took video and shared it with us!

Those babies are moving so fast!  Guess they know they are at risk until they reach the water.  Sort of odd seeing them all in the basket, lol.

What an amazing experience and I can't think of anyone who could appreciate it more than you. :)  Except maybe me. lol   There's just something about turtles that evoke wisdom and patience, with a touch of humor thrown in to make us smile.

I was very disturbed to see them in the baskets, but without this program fewer would survive so I kept telling myself that!

Paige that dream was 20 yrs ago, although I have never had that dream again, turtles appear in my dreams more than any other creature. Lots of them in my dreams last night :). Woke up thinking about those babies on their journey

Oh what a wonderful experience Karen. I'd have been just as giddy as you were. I love turtles too. How can you not love a turtle? Big Smile

Gin there is no doubt B would not have been calm, but he may have been of use when a pelican was hovering and landing in the hopes of a turtle snack. He chases the pelicans at the beach we visit so I am sure he would have kept that big hungry bird away :)
