interactive dog toys

Shane is not a strong chewer or one to fixate on anything for too long, so I do need to keep that in mind. I freeze his kongs for breakfast and dinner and sometimes he'll quit halfway thru when he can't easily get the food out of the small end. I'm sure one of the suggestions will work though.

I have a kong, bionic bone, buster cube, and bob a lot toy that I use for Jazz. She isn't a fan of the buster cube it's just too much work for her to get the treats out she is done with it before she gets all her dinner out of it. I try to give her one meal out of the day with one of her toys.

I ordered the Bob a Lot and the Everlasting Fun Ball today. Both had good reviews, so I'll post again when I get a chance to try them. Thanks for all the great reviews and suggestions.

This was a good learning thread.  I will look forward to your review Cathy.  My boys are not toy motivated.  Barbara got them interactive treat toys last Christmas and Rocky ended up liking it Hot not so much.   Hot gave up before it was empty...Rocky emptied his and Hots :).  I tend to forget about using them.  I used small kibble sized treats maybe I should try something different.  What does everyone put in their interactive toys.

    Melinda...good to see you

I use them to dispense kibble for or part of a meal

I also only give treats in a toy - Bugsy is most interested in the 'puzzle' aspect rather than the treat (as the crumbs all over my carpet indicate!)

I try to make it as challenging as possible - so far nothing has been impossible LOL

Lately I have been putting a 3-4 inch piece of jerky inside the everlasting fun ball and somehow he gets it out - it takes a few minutes which is what I am hoping to do.

Generally if using a treat I want it to not be able to come out on its own by rolling it - basically it is bigger than the hole BUT I do this because he is very stimulated and driven to complete the task and I want it to take a bit of time to complete

Thanks Karen, I may have to use these more often.  Especially this winter to keep them busy :)

I'm always around I just lurk more now days been busy keeping up with Jazz, but you might see me more around here come winter.

I mainly put kibble in them so she has to work a meal so that it helps better to slow her down so no worries about bloat I'm going to see about making some treats for them or jerky start putting that in the toy.

Wow - now that I've seen the everlasting fun ball in action, I'm super impressed. I'd give it 2 thumbs up. I put small, smelly treats in there this morning and I'll bet if I hadn't helped Shane get the last few out, he'd still be working that ball. He licks the opening like he does with his kong and hasn't yet figured out that if he squishes it with his teeth, the opening will allow the treats to drop out. No complaints here though. Anything that keeps his attention is a plus.

I think the bob a lot will also be a good toy for him but I haven't used it to feed him a meal yet, so that'll be next. I found them both thru Amazon for about 1/2 the list price, so I'm happy with the purchase and would recommend both.

I <3 the everlasting fun ball! I was talking to someone else today and they said it is the only toy their dog hasn't destroyed :)

When I went online to look up the toys listed in this thread, I realized that we've tried many of them already (I didn't know all their names).  Of the ones we've tried, the only one that's still intact is the Everlasting Fun Ball.  Love it!

I have a small dog, and she actually loves cat toys.  I don't know if that would work in your situation, but cat toys hang from strings and stuff and bounce around to entertain the cat.  She also bats her dry food around on the floor like a cat.  Part of it can also be because before I adopted her, she lived in a house full of cats from a few days after birth until about 4 months old.  She also cleans herself sometimes, lol, so maybe she's just a unique case.

I know this thread's a bit older, but I had to share. Enjoy! I got the tug-a-jug for Zeke, thinking it would be a good thing to take awhile for him to solve, and it looked reasonably indestructable. The instructions did say, though, that some dogs chew through the rope.

Well, I gave it to Zeke one night, and within half and hour, it was empty (I had not filled it much), and the rope was in two pieces! Oh, well, I thought, at least the jug still works.Huh? The next time I gave it to him, I filled with his whole dinner. It still took a long time to empty, even without the rope, so that's good. On the downside, He has already chewed a lot of the rubber top off the jug, and the polycarbonate, indestructable, plastic part has so many grooves, it's almost opaque already. After only two uses! I really hope it lasts long enough to get my money's worth!
