A familiar charity spotlighted on CBS News - Callie's favorite! (tacran)

Did anyone catch this on the CBS Evenings News broadcast tonight?

     http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-18563_162-57494981/volunteers-give-sick-kids-a-bit-of-orlando-magic/?tag=showDoorFlexGridLeft;flexGridModule

As soon as I saw it, I thought of Callie.  I immediately recognized the organization's name from all the stories she's posted about the visits there she and David make with the dogs.  It was such a moving piece -- the volunteer they spotlighted was an inspirational gentleman, the young girl was amazingly poised, and the organization itself does tremendous work.

Callie, maybe you've seen this man during your visits.  He's been there 20 years and still going strong!

We have heard Callie's stories about this wonderful place, now I will have a picture when I hear the stories.  Thank you for sharing Tracy.  Yea for David and Callie and all the others that volunteer at this special place.

Oh absolutely.  They have an incredible number of volunteers -- and you'd be amazed at the retirees who DO just what he does.  They treat it literally as a "job" and are there almost every day.

When you see the video you catch a glimpse of the big merry-go-round and we sit right in front of there.  The pool you see?  it's not only Olympic-sized but one side of it is a ramp wide enough for a bed.  So if a child wants to be in the pool but is bed-ridden they can DO that.

I called my folks last night to be sure they saw it.

It is truly one of the most awesome places on the earth.

btw I will say this.  Give Kids the World is the "wish granting" organization.  Make a Wish is the vehicle most kids come in via.

ANYONE can nominate a family for this.  If you go to http://www.givekidstheworld.org there's a place you can click in so you can find out how to refer a child/family in.

It's a process -- but it can be done FAST in an emergency.  Critically ill or dying children.  And frankly that's a pretty broad description.  Sometimes it's a doctor who refers them in, but surprisingly not as often as you'd think.
