Anyone want a Dahlia dog?

    Anyone want a Dahlia dog?

So I know lots of you guys like my dog (and she's an awesome dog!).  Anyone want one that looks and acts a lot like her?

Meet Dahlia's as yet unnamed doppelganger.

She's just been pulled out of a shelter in southern Ohio and is residing across the border with my friend in West Virginia, who pulls dogs from this shelter, vets them, fosters them, and finds them new homes.  I'm not sure we can adopt her, but I want to help her find a home!

Here's what I know of her so far:

The shelter estimated her to be 2.  My friend thinks she could be older based on her teeth (she'll have a vet confirm the age estimate when she takes her in in the next couple days).  She could potentially be the same age as Dahlia (around 6), which is freaky because she was picked up as a stray about 30-45 miles away from where Dahlia was picked up as a stray 4 years ago.

She's super sweet and travels well in the car.

She's around 60 pounds but needs to lose weight.  My friend suspects she should weigh 50-55 pounds.

She gets along fine with all of her dogs.  She has a handful of her own plus a bunch of fosters that are soon to be in new homes.  She met them all and was totally cool with them.  Not afraid, totally unflappable, great body language and totally chill about them all.

She also basically ignored the cats.  She noticed them and just walked by with no concern.

She's going to the vet tomorrow or Thursday to get tested for heartworm, get vaccinated, and they'll check to see if she's spayed (spaying will be set up immediately if she's not).

So that's Dahlia's doppelganger.  If anyone has been thinking about adding another dog to their home, especially a super sweet and mellow fluffy dog, this one could be for you!  If you would seriously want her, please let me know because I can put you in contact with my friend.  I promise she's not one of those super strict "you must have a fenced in yard or you couldn't possibly adopt this dog!" types.  She just wants these dogs who were on death row at the local shelter (this girl's time was up tomorrow!) to have a good home.

Awwww I would soooo love a Dahlia dog but.....cant do more than 2 and I know that :(.   I do hope this girl gets a great home.  If she is half and smart and beautiful as Dahlia she will be a wonderful dog.   Thanks to you and your rescue friend for helping these dogs on death row.

Sounds like she'd be a great family dog.  That makes them easier to place.  Although, black dogs are, in general, hard to place.  Paws crossed she lands in a good home!

In an unexpected twist of fate, we found a Craigslist posting that seems to match this dog perfectly (overlooked because it was in the "lost and found" and not the "pets" section).  My friend has e-mailed the people who posted the ad, but we haven't heard back yet.  Hopefully this is her real home!

Sending very strong find your family vibes for this pretty BBD :)

Thank you!  We have not heard anything from the e-mail my friend sent to the folks, which is very frustrating.  I hope she hears from them soon!  I just can't imagine that the dog in the CL ad is anything but the dog we pulled.

The dog was lost in the same town that she was picked up in AND on the same day she was brought to the shelter on.  They also mention a collar indentation (she recently lost her collar) and my friend said she's got a good indentation around her neck that indicated she had a collar on recently.

Plus this was the picture on the ad:

    The family has been found.

And it's not good news.  I wish we had never found them.

Apparently she's kept outside in a pen with access to a shed for shelter.  She has a GSD friend who is kept in the same situation (I guess they share the shed?).  She escapes a lot and "always" comes back.  I guess they called the shelter that she was at, but never came down to see if their dog was there.

My friend is going to offer to take her in if they're willing to give her up.  I suspect they won't, but I guess we can hope.

I'm just heartbroken over this.  Such a sad situation for this girl to be returned to.

To make a long story short (for anyone who cares!), she's not going back to her original awful family.  She's staying in rescue.

A friend or ours is REALLY interested in her, but she lives across the country.  So we're considering options to get her out to there. Hopefully she'll have a fresh new start to life!

This is good news! I hope she gets an awesome home soon!

I hope so too!  But right now she's at least in a great foster home.

We have the additional worries about an outdoor dog who has had no vet care (none...seriously...this guy told my friend "we don't take her to the vet, we don't need that."  Like what?).  I worry horribly about heartworm and lyme disease, though much more about the former.  The latter is fairly simple and not that expensive to treat (been there done that with my girl), but having her heartworm positive would make this such a difficult situation as we don't have the money to treat her for something like that.

I'm so glad she's not going back to that home.  It sounds like she'd make someone (or a family) a fantastic companion.  She's pretty too (but then again I have a big soft spot when it comes to black dogs, specially if they've got some fluff!).  I hope she gets a clean bill of health at the vets.

Thank goodness she is now safe.  What a beauty she is.  Do we know her name?  I hope you can get her to a "nice" forever home.

    • Gold Top Dog

Her name was Abby, but considering how neglected she was by this jerk, we'll probably rename her (or let her adoptive home rename her!).  We have a possible new home but if this person takes her we're going to have to figure out how to get her from West Virginia to Las Vegas!  It's possible, but not easy.  But I know the person living out there and she and her husband would give this dog a wonderful home.

P.S. Sorry the photo isn't working.  If you click on it you can see it.  I made an alteration to it and forgot that when I do that, it breaks the original link.
