    Saturday Chat

Hmmmm...can't believe no one started this yet. From yesterday's thread - Karen - are you able to walk to the lake to kayak or do you have to drive? It's supposed to be 100ish today and for the next few days. I guess I'd better get any yard work done early. Still shaking my head at the horror of the Colorado shooting. So sad. I hope everyone has a great day!

We're going to get hotter today than we've been for a few weeks but not as hot as normal for this time of year.  It's really weird to see so much lush green growth in mid July.

Despite themselves, my family managed to meet up for dinner last night.  DH and I were about to eat on our own when they finally made a plan. We ended up at a Mexican restaraunt that had no air conditioning. :(  The person who picked this place used to be my favorite niece. lol and just kidding. The place was packed to the rafters and we waited well over an hour for a table for our group of 15.  DH and I were the first to arrive and when we told the host (using that term loosely) his eyes got wide and he gulped out a weak response.  When they finally got us seated there weren't enough seats or table space.  When we brought this to the waitress attention, she pointed to a nearby table and said "when they finish, we'll push their table over for you".  It was so bizarre that it became funny.  Luckily the place had a full bar. :)  The service was terrible, the food mediocore and the musical entertainment was lousy.  But despite all that, we all had a great time! LOL  I hope the pictures of me dancing don't show up on the internet. Surprise

I too am still just horrified and confused about the CO shooting.

Cathy I can walk to the lake, it's our normal walk really, but I couldn't drag the kayak along. They do offer some storage of them there but are full at the moment, plus I have designs to go to a variety of places. I might look at that though in the future. To drive it is about 2 miles in a different direction :) I am going to see what it's like getting it up & off my car tomorrow.

I woke up with a huge sinus headache today, we had more storms yesterday and remain repulsively wet, humid & hot. Great news to share is that Bugsy was great during most of the storms yesterday, completely unmedicated. It was my hope that the Xanax would help him to be less anxious in storms and that would sort of remind of him that the world wasn't coming to an end because of lightning.

I am watching some golf now, walked B super early, off to a mammogram at 1:30 :( and we are going to Glen Campbell tonight at an outdoor theater. Hoping we DON'T have storms

Eta: Jackie so glad your bizarre evening was fun lol

Karen - I looked at the details of the kayak after posting and realized then it wasn't something you were just toting along. I'd imagine you could make some kind of rolling trailer but not sure what your terrain is like on your walk. I so wish I lived closer. I'd love to have a buddy to do that kind of thing with.

Yay for Bugsy doing better with the storm. Sorry about the sinus headache though.

Jackie - what you described is exactly why I really don't like going out to eat on Fri nights unless you can get reservations. I'd have finished off a pitcher of margaritas before dinner was served. It sounds like it all worked out though and I'm off to search for pictures of you dancing ;).

I'm thinking of taking the Chow kids out for more pics.  We shall see :)  Have to take advantage of Aesop's spiffy post bath period, lol.

My aunt posted on Facebook that they put their elderly Chow mix to sleep. I'd known they'd been considering it, as she'd messaged me on advice on how to know when it's time.  She had a wonderful life...19 years, which is so fabulous for a Chow/GSD mix. A real testament to her care over the years. In her early years, she and Legend were good friends and played quite a bit :)

I also woke with the most annoying toothache. I have an iffy tooth that's caused issues off and on. I'm just trying to stretch it out until August, when we're back on two paychecks.  On the upside, I had some pills left from my root canal earlier this year, so hopefully that will make it manageable today.

No doubt I could get B to pull it along the streets in our community for most of the walk - he is so well known and loved people would probably laugh & smile. But the last 1/2-3/4 mile is through fields & woods that aren't very passable lol.

Cathy that would be good if you were here to have fun with, the woman I went with the other night is one the early morning dog walkers, anyway she was with her DH and they were turbo kayakers. I don't want to race around the lake so I hope on her own she's content to do a more casual ride. I am not one of those people just floating around but I am also not looking to paddle as fast as I can the whole time either.

Shawna sorry to hear about your Aunt's dog but what a long & wonderful life!

Our weather is divine!  It is so very pleasant today!  Only supposed to reach 79 degrees and right now its 74.  Those temps I can deal with easily.

I'm very surprised that my sugar snap peas are still producing like crazy.  I have two very large bags of them in the freezer and we've eaten a number of meals with them.  Not complaining one tiny bit since we really enjoy them.  I was really annoyed to discover that the mouse who lives in our garage had eaten the peas I'd left to dry for next year.  Little bugger!  I had enough set aside for SIX rows of sugar snaps.  The green beans are just getting going good and I've already put a couple bags of those in the freezer as well.  Despite the heat, I'm even getting peppers...smallish, but still very tasty.  I love my garden.  Think that I'll dig some taters for tonights dinner.

Need to go pick up dog food, so off I go!  Have a good day all!

Been under the weather a bit with a bout of vertigo and the heat. Finally took a trip to the hospital because I was getting really dehydrated, and I couldn't keep anything down for 2 days. Yuck. Back to 75% today-the cooler temps are definitely helping.

Hugs for all who need them. I haven't caught up on the threads yet.

It's supposed to be around 100/101 for three days and I have a couple of errands to run in Sacramento so I'll have to force myself out the door and into the car.

I heard something on the news last night that just irritated the hell-o out of me.  CA has had a real problem being able to keep the state parks open and it seems like every other day another one is closing.  It appears that the director of the state dept. of parks & rec and her associate have been sitting on roughly $54 million dollars - unreported.  I don't know what they've been using it for.  Vacations maybe? Anyway, now that they found it I hope they find someone who can use it productively and get some of those parks back up and running. Needless to say, she was fired and the associate quit.

Kate, I'm so sorry you've been sick and hope you get back to 100% very soon.

Shawna, sorry to hear of your Aunt's dog passing but what a great, long life.

It's hot hot hot here.  I've been at the nursing home most of the day with my cousin.  She's doing so well in OT and was in great spirits today.  I'm still recovering from last night and need a nap.

Cathy, the type of place that would requre reservations wouldn't let our rowdy crowd in the front door. lol  There were too many young kids to go anywhere even a little fancy without making the evening miserable for the other diners. lol   We would have been better off at a pizza place probably but it's one of those evenings we'll laugh about for years.  :)

Oh gosh Kate I am so sorry you have been so unwell! I sure hope the worst is over and you are on your way to full health now!

    Mammogram over :)

the woman that took it asked me at the end where I was from as she couldn't place my accent, haha She said she was really confused because I had a few words that sounded very English.

Came back and fitted the rest of the kayak carrier and loaded it up! I cannot say it was easy, but it is very doable! Of course it was even more steamy as a storm had rolled through and all the pavement was still steaming. I have got to say I don't understand the attraction of saunas ;)

    Feel better Kate!

Jackie, it sounds like you guys had a good time :)

Apparently, some syrup dripped from the bottle in my cupboard yesterday and I have been battling ants ever since!!!!! I have never had ants in this house before. I have no idea where they are coming from. I have emptied all of my cupboards and scrubbed everything down, tossed the offending syrup bottle plus anything else that would have allowed ants to get in (like salt and pepper shakers) and am now in the process of scrubbing down the rest of the kitchen. This is not how I planned this weekend to go. I should be finishing up shopping, cleaning the yard, exercising the dogs, getting the house in order and packing. Instead I feel like I'm Elmer Fud (or was it fudge) huntin wabbits. All ants must die!!!

Bummer about the ants Julie - I had to go through that last year - teeny ants are fairly normal around here though :(

Just back from the Glen Campbell concert. I am starting to feel jinxed. As we sat there listening to his son and daughter who opened for him lightning started to illuminate the evening. I looked on a weather ap and there was a HUGE front heading our way. I looked up and you could see the line in the sky. It was very, very violent and we went to the car to see if it kept moving fast. It may have but being ginormous it went on for over an hour at which point I decided to get out of the car to use the ladies room.I heard music, lo and behold Glen had decided to give the people a show so in the pouring - and I mean pouring- rain, thunder and an insane amount of lightning we sat with hundreds of others listening and singing along.

It was a great experience to see someone who won't be around much longer doing something he loves and is still amazing at, but I am pretty sick and tired of being outside unprotected from thunder & lightning.

I am now wearing sweats and a hoodie trying to get warm
