Interceptor Shortage

I have been searching everywhere for Interceptor for my 2 small Poms and haven't had much luck until I went to a site in Canada. I thought they were advertising Interceptor as they describe it as Interceptor Brown 2-10lbs which certainly would seem to be what I currently use.

Upon reading further into the fine print I see it is called Interceptor Spectrum which is essentially the same as regular Interceptor plus one added ingredient of Praziquantel which helps for another type of worms... I researched it and it is also known as Drontal which my Poms took as puppies for tapeworm.

I was wondering if anyone else has come across this particular type of Interceptor and if so, your thoughts...

Who was the manufacturer -- that would make me go 'hmmm" because Interceptor already KILLS anything drontal usually would altho not necessarily. Odd

Interceptor doesn't kill tapeworms based on what I've read and been told by several veterinarians. Dronal kills tapes, hooks and roundworms but not heartworms. It's usually given as a one time dose.

To the OP, I wouldn't get it unless you could confirm it was manufactured by Novartis, the manufacturer of Interceptor. Maybe you could contact them to see if they're making this version of Interceptor or not.

You are right Jackie - I didn't think of tapes. Not typically what my vet uses. But you're also right that it's typically one dose.

The manufacturer is Novartis in Australia and yes this additional ingredient is to treat tapeworms. When I said it was the same as Drontal I should have explained that it is an ingredient found in Drontal. Drontal Plus contains: praziquantel, pyrantel pamoate, febantel. I think praziquantel is for treatment of tapeworms only.

I cannot find regular Interceptor anywhere and thought this was almost exactly the same except for the additional ingredient.

I was hoping to find someone else that has tried this particular Interceptor Spectrum.

I can't find this product available on any site I would consider reputable, thus I wouldn't buy it.

I got mine from my vet, but they only gave me 3 doses this time because of the shortage.
