I am part of another forum on the net, and I wanted to share something truly amazing that has happened over there.
A couple with a young APBT came to the board looking for help. Their dog had fallen through some stairs, and shattered both of his back legs. These people did not have the funds to cover the surgery (close to $3,000). Another member of the forum suggested they ask for assistance from other members, as well as directing them to alternate sources (they had already tried loans, family, friends, all to no avail.)
Well, this community of people were able to band together to help a dog in need. People were donating (straight to the vets office) quantities ranging from hundreds to over a thousand dollars in an attempt to help this dog.
It was AMAZING to see this happen. Animal lovers from all corners of the country coming together!
Now, the dog has had surgery as of yesterday, and is on his way to recovery.
Someone has started a "Things for Matt" thread. People are still helping!!! sending gifts for a good recovery! (I sent a "bottoms up" leash to facilitate his relieving himself.
It feels really great.
