Crate Training

That's the first time I ever heard Panda cry. He didn't cry he just whined a little. I left him in my room with his toys and let Buddy out to play with a little. I would now and then sneak treats under the door for Panda but the final minutes of playing with Buddy, I heard Panda slam into my door, then he whined a little, and then scratched at the door. I have never seen him do that before. >_>

Might be better to play with Buddy in another room if you can, not right outside the room that Panda is in.  If he hears you out there, he's going to be more likely to get stressed and/or excited.  You did the right thing to set him up in a room with toys etc, then just leave him completely.  If he likes kongs, you could maybe leave him with a filled kong, so that it's a nice association for him.

Hope things get easier for you soon!  And remember, it's a good thing for the dogs to learn to be apart sometimes anyway, so what you're doing now will help with that.  Plus having Buddy out the crate several times a day will probably help stop the whining.

Izzy fought her crate like crazy at first.  I started giving her a treat ball and sometimes even feeding her meals in it.  I also moved her crate into our living room so that at night she didn't keep us up crying all night.  She pretty much cries if she thinks we are in the room with her.  She now RUNS to her crate anytime she sees me get a treat out.  I would suggest some mind boggling treat balls that will keep the pup occupied while you are leaving the area and give them a reward when they figure it out for being int heir crate!

Is it too late to crate train an 8yr old w/ severe storm anxiety? She has always slept with me, but it's become dangerous when she acts out in the middle of the night. I am disabled, and her INCESSENT digging is quite painful. She too, is a whiner. And a doorknob opener, door clawer etc when in a panic. I've other posts under 'Problems & Habits/Acting Out & Strange Stuff' with more detail.
