Bittersweet day.

You probably extended more kindness and compassion to that poor dog than he had in his entire, and most likely difficult life.  The look he gave you was no doubt, one of gratitude, thanking you for giving him one last good day, and for ending his suffering.  Your little "roamer" understood what you did for the other guy and was thanking you in his own quiet way, by showing you some trust.  You have a good heart as obviously your Dad does too. If you ever see someone throw an animal from a vehicle again, please do all you can to get the license plate # and vehicle description--animal cruelty is illegal and people like that need to pay the consequences for their heartless actions!  Thanks for doing all you could...

    I agree.

Please don't feel that you betrayed that poor boy. You did something so humane, and I'm sure he understood.

I sat here bawling my eyes out reading your post. Be assured the old fella knew you were helping him across to the Rainbow Bridge and THANKED you for it by giving you a kiss. His missery and old hurtful, frail body was giving out on him. What you did was an act of kindness. GOD will smile on you for this. He will be at the Bridge waiting for you someday. You are an ANGEL.
The other Roamer, knew you were helping this poor fella. You have earned his respect and trust too. You will see, he will come around you more.
Like Anne said... The person responsible for such a heartless act will have their day come judgement day and have to answer for a heartless cruel act. I too hope a thousand Camel fleas infest his crotch.!

Hugs to you for being the kind compassionate person you are.

You gave that dog such an amazing gift! He knew that you would help him, or he wouldn't have come to you.

O wow... that was a tear jerker!  You did the right thing.  Thank you for being so sweet and caring and helping that poor boy to a better place.  I truly wish the worst for whoever threw him out of the car.  I dont know why I still get so shocked by this stuff... but I do.

I agree with what others have said, you did the right thing. What a sad story.

I agree with all of the others. You did the right thing, including giving a hoot, in the first place. Mosaic justice would require that the offender be subjected to the same thing but, alas, the world is not perfect. It is only made better by people like you.

You did the right thing.  At least he knew some kindness in his last hours.

I agree with what Anne and Angel said.  Those people will get what's coming to them.

    Run free, old doggy.[sm=angel.gif]

    {{hugs}} to you.

That is a very touching story.  You did the right thing that his selfish "owners" would not. I'm sure they were aware of his problems and that is why they dumped him off.  Can't take responsibility! Ugh.

It's sad though to help them to the bridge. I hope you feel comfort that now he is running free, able to breathe a nice deep breath of fresh air.

I had a similar situation happen with a very old black tom cat.  Nobody knew who his owners were but he was very sweet.  He must have gotten into a fight or something because one day he showed up on my door step, very sick with an enormous infection from a bite wound on his face and neck.  He was grotesquely swollen.  Took him to the vet and tried antibiotics but it was too bad of an infection and we let him go, peacefully.  I am glad he didn't continue to suffer and die alone somewhere in the neighborhood.

You are a great person for helping him along and I hope your new roamer is caught and rehomed soon.  He doesn't knwo what he's missing out on :)

Bless you for being such a kind person.  It amazes me how cruel and heartless some people are.

Elizabeth, you did more and loved more in that 24 hours and that poor dog knew it.  I don't fear death, but my heart aches for any being (human or dog) who dies by himself.  You saved him that final suffering and you did the right thing - you gave him a haven to pass on peacefully and with dignity.  I agree with every single thing Xerxes said.  I believe he was dumped near you for a reason.

If you still have his collar (with the tag) you could contact that vet's office and the police could trace that back to his owners.  I hope the laws in TX are strict on animal abuse, but I fear like most places they may not be as fierce as we wish they were.

In any event, I'm sure your roamer trusts you even more for the compassion you showed his temporary friend.  He learned by watching your actions with the other dog that you are a safe haven for scared and suffering dogs like his friend.  You just may be surprised by him yet.  Good luck and all my best wishes and heartfelt hugs to you.
