Dogfighting training question r/t firecrackers

First off, I am absolutely NOT training dogs to fight.  I'm completely opposed to it, and I know my question will sound a little unusual, but I assure everyone that I am not involved with dogfighting.

Briefly, I'm looking for information about how fighting dogs are trained: specifically, if there is a practice of throwing firecrackers at or near the dog in order to make them meaner?  I did the standard Google searches, but didn't have any luck, so I was hoping a forum of enthusiasts might point me in the right direction.

I apologize for not explaining the purpose of my question, but there are some odd legal aspects to the situation right now (I know it sounds ridiculous, but the Internet is a small world).  Hopefully, I'll be able to make a second post down the road with more details, but until then, if anyone has any guidance I'd really, really appreciate.

I would suggest that you send a PM to Jaime, our forum administrator.  In that way you can lay out the reasons for your question and if she is comfortable with that, perhaps, since she has pitties, she would be willing to share what she knows, second hand of course, about fighting.  This is in no way to suggest that Jaime is anything other than a responsible owner with sweetheart dogs who do NOT fight......but since the breed is so dear to her heart, I'm guessing she's heard a lot on this subject.

Ummmm....no.  Crap.  I really can't.  I think it's amstaffy??  There should be a place on every page to contact the moderators?  Used to be anyhow.  You can email her at jbates@dog.com, but she won't see that 'til Monday.  I did shoot her an email about your questions at HOME, but I'm not gonna share that addy unless she says it's ok.  If she's online today, she'll respond to the thread.  I think Anne, who is a trainer, Spiritdogs, *might* know a little bit about this too, so you could try her as well.  Sorry I can't be more help with that.  If you WANT, you can EMAIL me the story and I could forward it to both gals.  To email me, click on my name to the left...that'll take you to my profile and if you scroll down, you'll have the option to pm or email me....pick Email, since I dont know how to forward a PM......or you can look around a bit, maybe do a people search.  I'm just not sure that Jaimes email will go to her at HOME...might just go to work......

Welcome to the forum. There are no "enthusiasts" who can tell you about dog fighting by experience.

I own the breed and have since before 1994. I have researched the breed and it's history for a better understanding of the dogs and their behavior, what is appropriate and not.

Reading your post I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you are concerned about a dog who is being subjected to the treatment you are talking about.

Real dog men, those who were serious fighters conditioned their dogs. What your talking about with fire crackers is abuse. Many wanna be's will go through the urban myths of what they *think* makes a dog meaner(truth is "if" they had half a brain they'd not be considering what they do).

I'd suggest you contact your local ACO/ police and report the activity you are seeing. If possible I'd also take pictures and videos. This type of evidence is the only way to really stop or convict as here say will not hold up
