    Ideas on doggy toys....pleaaasse

Ok so have you guys seen the cute Petsmart commercial with the cute little weiner dog toting around the mini stuffed weiner dog? It is slightly dirty with some wear and tear and it is time for a new one. Anyway... my Toby just had to have one so I marched right over and picked one up. He loved it, but much to my surprise 10 minutes after giving it to him the poor toy had been gutted of all stuffing and two squeekers. What is a mom to do? Any suggestions on better made stuffed animals? Those do seem to be his favorite but maybe that is because he can have his way with them. lol

There are similat toys made of stronger material. You could just look around your local pet store and see whats there. I went through tones of toys before I figured out which ones were "safe" for my dogs.

we have been thinking about getting our dogs some of these....

they are supposed to be some of the tuffest stuffed toys around.

before we got syney, the dr. noys toys would last a long time, but he shreds them in a day or less....

These are fairly rugged... it took Maddi a couple months to chew an ear off... and that was during her "toy destroyer" stage... the time that I dared not buy a stuffy toy.

I got this toy for Tyson after he hijacked it from my boyfriend's mothers dachshund pup.  He loves it, and unbelievably, he hasn't destroyed it.

It is really funny, cause Tyson is a pit bull, and these toys are tiny (3"), but they are surprisingly durable.  Most plush toys last literally 2 minutes with him, as he is a seek and destroy dog, but he has not destroyed these, and has had them for weeks.  I don't know if it is because they are too small for him to get a grip, or if they are just well made.

They are plush toys with a squeaker in them.

I found them at petsmart, and they are 3.29 a piece. They are called puppy buddies.

Here is a photo of them (from petsmart.com)

Hurl-a-squirrel and variations of it have been our favorite 1

The Hurley has lasted longer than all other toys at our house.

Did someone mention a stuffie? Must find and destroy all stuffies. Here little stuffie...

ha ha! just my feeble attempt at humor. The only thing that lasts more than 60 seconds aroun here are rock hard NylaBones or the black Kongs. Of course, we have planty of de-gutted stuffie rags pieces if anyone needs them!

A couple of years ago a friend got Max a stuffed monkey for Christmas - it made monkey noises instead of the usual squeak.  Max loved that thing and dragged it around for a long time before it stopped making sounds.  I sure would love to find another one somewhere.

We had one just like that. It died a slow, painful death lol.

My dogs LOVE the fleecy like squeakies I've gotten them from dog.com - and they're as tough or tougher than any others I've gotten. I like the egg babies and the squeaky sheep. Great prices too, so it doesn't hurt my feelings as bad when they ceremoniously de-appendage, de-squeak, or de-stuff them.

The best thing you can tell yourself is you need to understand a dog's mantra. "Squeaky toys are evil, and MUST BE KILLED." Once you understand this, you'll sleep much better at night.

Thanks for all the suggestions... I just found a little bunny which strangely enough growls. Interesting yes but so far so good.

Joyce, Wrigley had a frog like that.  We got it at Petsmart.

I've given up on stuffed toys. Russell's longest lasting stuffie was the alligator from Strapping Yankers - pictured here -

The thing is heavy canvas and all seams reinforced with tough woven nylon. It lasted a truly amazing few weeks then bit the dust like all the rest. I followed it with the snake from the same company... my thought process was "no limbs, nothing to tear off!"... it lasted about 10 minutes.
Once they get that first taste of stuffing... they turn into stuff-thirsty killers.

UGGGHHH! I know what you mean! My older dog will destroy any stuffed toy with in a few min. The FatCat brand (Target has it) seems to hold up better then most but Sam still kills those in less then a half hour.  I tried a stuffed toy I found at Dog.com made by Tuffies which actually made it about a week.... Even tho Sam can gut a stuffed toy in seconds I usually just pick up the guts and leave him with the body...He still plays with it.

Oh yeah -- -Someone asked about a monkey that makes monkey noises.  Pet Smart carries one that sells for about $8.. I also found one at dog.com too for about $5 but it wasnt very big.
