? for people with 2+ dogs

I use to walk Bear and Zoe together.  They each wore head haltis and I had them on separate leashes, but they would stick together, walk side by side.  That made it really easy and it was pretty cute.  But I've stopped using the head haltis now, and I haven't walked them together since then.  I've been training them separately to walk without pulling, that's going very well so I might try walking them together again and see how that goes.

I have in the past walked both saints by myself. I try to do it somewhere that has few distractions (for us that's other dogs or people) also when we load up in the SUV for a ride I do it by myself. I use seperate leashes, and sporn harnesses for walking. If we are just loading up for a ride, I use seperate leashes, no harness.
 
Most of the time if we walk the dogs DH and I do it together. I walk Shaq because he is better behaved, and DH walks Marley because she is naughty. (Marley does great if I am walking her by myself, but throw Shaq into the mix, and I really have to be on my toes.) People often comment that they cannot believe DH leaves me to walk the "giant" dog while he walks the "little" one. They do not realize that although Shaq is huge he is WAY easier to walk then Marley.

I hate the couplers; I prefer to attach full-length leashes together at the ends with carbiners. I prefer to walk two or fewer dogs on leash at a time. Untrained dogs have to go alone. Even on off-leash walks I'm a bit leery about how many dogs to take at once. Always consider that you may have to leash them all up in a crisis and must be able to control them.
Just tell yourself that exercise is good for you.

I have 2 of those double loop leashes ( love them) and i walk one dog on each side of me with a prong. they're usually really good and i've rarely had a problem. Combined the 2 dogs weigh more than me

Sporn makes a great double leash. It has a couplet that allows you to attach to two dogs while using one leash. The thing has a swivel on it and it is a no tangle leash! They split ends can be adjusted to be different lengths so that you can customize for two different size dogs or walk your two dogs close together or allow more space between. ITS AWESOME! I just got it this week and its great! The loop/handle is padded too which is great for extra comfort!

Just got a great leash called the Pet Walker Plus.  It is essentially two leashes attached to one handle, so if one dog pulls, he is not pulling the other dog but the handle.  Both leads are also attached to a swivel, so they cannot get tangled.  There is also a quick release so that you may separate the dogs quickly (should they fight on lead or similar situation)

Yeah, it's definitely the hardest bit about walking more than 2 dogs. We have one tall one that walks ahead and 2 short ones, one that tends to lag behind and another that tends to wander all over. The best way to do it, I've found, is to put the two that are walking closest together in one hand and the other in the other hand. You can teach them with a little patience and insistence to stay on the side you put them on. I find it's also very helpful to gather in loose leash when the dogs stop so they don't step over the leads.

We have 3 dogs...a spltter leash is a must,but there is no way i could take all three out at once..2 50+ pounds huskies and an 80 Lb northern mix that love to pull..


  Our routine is to let them inot a fenced in area for an hour,playing with them,and letting them wrestle..After the initila burst of energy is worn off,i will take 2 on either a bike ride or for a walk...the other waits till i get home and we do a walk or run..all told it may take up a couple hours each day,but when they are playing off leash,i can do things out doors in the yard.

When I had my three dogs, walking all three wasn't the problem..back then. I had my old lab Shadow, my golden Max and my lab puppy Belle. Max is the easiest dog in the world to take on a walk so I would either let her be off leash (she hates that she thinks we humans should always be on a leash) or let hers be loose, she would naturally walk on the outside of Shadow, who was a little bit of a puller but not too bad I would just have more leash control on her. Both dogs would be on my left.  Then my husband would walk Belle.
 
Now we have Belle and Max, Belle is more complicated because she has such high energy. If I have been walking/playing/working Belle regularly she walks just fine, again Max likes the outside position. I do not use any special leashes or collars, but my dogs have been through obedience training. We are planning to get a puppy around Christmas. That will make the dog walking interesting. Probably poor Max will walk herself, and my husband and I will have Belle and the puppy. Max feels she should be the center of the universe, so she doesn't like walking herself, she wants attention.
 
Truth is once we have the puppy, at first Belle will probably take solo walks, and my husband and I will take the puppy and Max for shorter walks. Maxine will be 10 by then she doesn't need 2+ mile walks. Once the puppy is old enough, she and Belle will go together and Maxine will get the solo walks.
