    Acevet

    Hello,  I'm new to this forum and need some advice about Acevet.  My husband and I are going out of town for  a week and we have to bring my sweet German Shepherd to the kennel.  We were at the vet last night and she tried to administor the kennel cough liquid into her nostril but she wouldn't let them.  So, the vet gave us Acevet and said that I should give her the pills 1 hr prior to bringing her in again this evening.

    Does anyone know much about this Acevet?  Will it make her calm down and feel drowsy?
    I would really like to know.  Thanks for you help.

    I don't know anything about Acevet, but our vet had the liquid kennel cough vaccine and the shot form as well. They said they prefer the shot, because most dogs don't like the liquid, so I'd check to see if there is an option.

    Acevet=Acepromazine, right?

    Ace will calm her down so the vet can administer the bordatella. It may sedate her enough to make her sleep depending on the dose and how her body processes it. Ace is a common sedative. I gave it to my cats when we moved so it wouldn't be so stressful for them, and they slept most of the time.

    Ace is perfectly safe...it will sedate your dog so that it is more manageable.

    As long as your dog isn't epileptic.

    If your dog is epileptic, Ace will bring on a lovely variety of seizures, for the duration of it's stay in the body.

    Yes, I learned that lesson. No, Emma doesn't get Ace any more.
