Water Dish

Actually, depending on the design of the bowl / refill container, there could be a rather large fault in the theory. If the design depends on the fact that air cannot get in when the bowl section is full and its this principle that stops the refill container from constantly flowing due to gravity feed it will all end up on the floor.

Just an after thought, our one at home uses a float switch which is why I didn't think of this straight off.

Well, it was a nice idea anyway! [;)]

I'll definitely try the treat thing though.[:)]

We also have the plastic water jug dish. We don't fill the jug all the way as it takes too long for the dogs to finish it and we like to wash it frequently. We have never had issues with acne or infections. We do use stainless steel for food and the kitties have stainless steel water and food. However, both cats like to use the water jug as opposed to their stainless steel most of the time. Go figure!![;)]

We have the jug thing too, and I honestly don't think I could live without it. The cats love it, and the dogs drain it in no time, especially if we've been outside as hot as it's been lately. We've had no problems with it, but we also clean it regularly and steam the actual dish part in the dishwasher.

We have a 5 gallon jug thing, plastic and we fill it once every 5 days for our 4 dogs.  They did not like it at first but we just let them be and they soon learned the glug glug was not going to bite them.  I had tried one years before but my dogs were too afraid of it and would not drink from it, I was too worried and got rid of it.  This second one, same thing but my dogs are older now and it only took a little bit of time for them to over come it.  They'd drink, it'd glug glug and they'd back up staring at this thing.  Then go back for more drink...  Kota, at first, would only drink a little bit, then back up, wait for the glug, then go back, drink, back up, glug... lol.. He's fine with it all now.

That's why I stopped using it in the first place.  I was so afraid because Max wasn't drinking.  It was really bothering him and he wouldn't even walk near it.  He is about seven, but he's a chicken about a lot of things.  Hopefully he'll work better with it this time.
