What is your dog attack story?

Knock on wood, I've never been attacked by a dog and neither has my dog (yet). He's gotten into some squabbles - at least one nasty one I can think of - but no real fights. I have seen a dog attack though, and it was scary. An adult border terrier attacked a BMD puppy at the park, and wow - unfortunately I just totally froze in place, I had no idea how to react (someone else jumped in and broke it up).

I've been bitten by so many dogs, that I have a healthy respect for ANYTHING with teeth. [sm=lol.gif]

The worst attack was a Whippet that nailed me on the back of my leg and actually damaged my calf muscle. It was a rescue Whippet and they ended up putting her down. The attack was completely unprovoked.

Another bad one was from a Giant Schnauzer, and to this day, I am not overly fond of the breed. It was, again, an unprovoked attack, and (of course) followed the owner's hearty "Oh, she loves EVERYONE". Right.

The last rather nasty one was from a Brittany a couple of years ago. I was photographing at a dog show and the Brit's owners asked me to photograph him for a painting. The second the flash went off, the dog was on me and nailed me pretty bad on the hand. Thankfully she was able to pull the dog off before he did any worse damage.

My Irish Setter, Nixon, was attacked by a Rottweiler at a dog show about 7 years ago, and I was never able to show him again. He showed with his tail down after that. I had won several nice Winners and Breeds with him up until then. Nixon was on a leash, and I was walking through the center aisle at a big show when out of nowhere, a big male Rott jumped Nixon and took him down. The owner just stood there, never tried to pull him off or anything, so I kicked the dog in the head. Then the owner got pissed at me. [:@] Well, she got a good dose of little Debbie in her face. Nixon was terrified after that so I ended up walking him around the grounds for a couple of hours feeding him cookies and liver until he at least stopped slinking. I didn't want to take him out of there on a bad note. The damage had already been done however. The woman was never brought up on charges by the show committee, but the AKC rep had a talk with me about kicking the dog. Stupid people. What was I supposed to do? Let the Rott kill Nixon?

When i was a kid of 9 years old, there was a german Sheperd by the name of Ziggy that all us kids were terrified to ride by on our bikes...He would run out and chase you till about 50 ft past his house and stop dead, then return to his house...as far as i know,he never caught any one,but i would hate to have seen what would have happened if he did.

There also is or was a Golden Retriever near me that would run out at my Kiara and try to get her.I had to call the dog officer on this one,and havnt seen it since.even got it on camera.

Itold the dog officer i didnt want the dog taken away, put down,or fines issued if the owner would keep him tied...i havnt seen him in a month,so they may have gotten rid of it..the first complaint i filed,he denied even owning this dog, that is why i had to get these pics.

Wow, that is a good shot of that dog but what about the other black dog running out there, is it also an agressive dog? Do they still own that one?

i havnt seen the lab lately either and we run by at least twice a week...the lab was a puppy, and was almost hit by the car behind my wife in this incident...he didnt seem agressive, but has a dog setting him an example.

not only do i not want my dog to not get bit,i dont want these dogs to get hit...some people just dont believe in tieing up thier dogs...

    Wow, so many attack stories![:o]

Dodger was attacked twice, both as a puppy, 6 months and 10 months.

The first attack wasn't too bad, at the dog park a rottie (who weighed 100lbs more than him) pinned him down and snarled in his face...Dodger ended up with bloody marks on his back from being squashed into the rocks. I had to "kick" the dog off because the owners walked away like it didn't belong to them.

The second attack by a GSD  at the dog park was a puncture wound to his leg that never healed properly.   He was on antibitotics for months.  But what's worse is that now he has aggression issues as well.  The mental scars have barely begun to heal.

A chow attacked me.  I got 46 stitches in my arm.  I killed the dog.  27 years ago.  End of story.

The only thing I can remember is when we were supposed to be taking care of a friend's animals while she was gone, so we went over there. They had a dog that was outside, it was a Lab, but something I think was wrong with this dog. They kept it tied up most of the time, and I think it had bitten kids before. So they had it loose while we were there, and I had brought Casdidy along, and let her out of the van on her leash ( this was before I knew about that) and this dog came up and started to attack her. Luckily she was still right next to the van, and I was trying to pull her up into the van while she was trying to defend herself from this other dog. I got her in, and neither of them got hurt. But this dog had also been acting agressive towards us when we came to feed the animals. I could understand it trying to protect it's home, but I think there was something wrong with it; the dog just didn't look right, and I learned later that it had bitten the kids on several occasions, so they kept it tied out under a tree most of the time. I don't know who to blame, but I can tell you that I never took Cassidy back there!
