Talking too much about your dog....

Isn't it funny, but I just got done talking to my therapist about this yesterday (that would be a 2 legged therapist, not my 4 legged ones [8|]).  I have a total of 4 dogs, 2 cats and assorted barnyard livestock and obviously they are number one in my life.  Unfortunately, most of my friends and my immediate family are definitely NOT animal people and are somewhat dismissive of MY 'kids' - almost to the point of being rude about it sometimes.

Anyway, my therapist told me yesterday that it is perfectly normal and acceptable to say and feel that my animals are my number one priority and that's that, end of discussion.  And if other people try to act like that's "weird" or feel you'd be better off focusing on other (more people oriented) things - that's THEIR problem, not mine.

So I've been saying to myself every time I think about it "my animals are my number one priority....and that's just fine!"

I totally love my dogue and talk about him to anyone who'll listen...
I strike up conversations about dogs with people who buy dog stuff from our retail store....
I have a small photo album of Talus in my purse that I'll flip out anytime I can....
My friends always ask about Talus and what his latest adventures are...my family always wants to know how my baby is......

When my husband comes home from work our first conversation is about what Louise did today, who she met, how she responded to them, whether or not any of her friends were there, how her poops were, how many times she swam, what she ate, how long she slept, how her commands are going, etc.   We can talk about this for hours like the biggest dorks ever.

I try and really only talk to people about Cookie who are fellow dog owners. Otherwise I get this [8|]

My bf and I talk about Cookie all the time. My best friend and I have made up an alter ego for her that she has poker parties while I'm at work. [:D] The pot consists of Milkbones.

Cookie is my child and I am absolutely in love with her. Anyone who doesn't like it can stuff it!

    Right guys??? [:D]

I love my bulldogs, Mugzy (9 months) and Bella (5 months) so much!  There is not a day when I don't mention them to my co-workers about what they did last night or this morning before I left for work.  They just have so much personality and they're so adorable!  Everyone tells me that my husband and I need to have children soon.  It's in the works but we'll always have bulldogs.  Mugzy and Bella are the sweetest ever!!

~LMAO~ Xerxes, Dinner? ~LOL~  Okay, I have a sick sense of humor but that is just too funny.

Okay, back on topic.  I, um, just sent DH a picture of Aspen & Bubba in the small hallway in my house.  Bubba is my cat & is always being chased by the dogs.  This wasa BIG day for me since Aspen seemed totally oblivious to Bubba & Bubba didn't run away. The point is that DH is away for the weekend & wasn't here to share in this BIG event in our kid's lives.  So I sent the picture from my phone to his.
Yes, I talk alot about the boys.  They are my kids.  My only kids.  My friends go on & on about their human kids, why can't I go on about my fur kids?  They are just as important to me as human kids are to their families.  I know it's not the same as human kids.  I don't have to send them to college. :o)

Do people in your lives ever seem like they really don't want to hear another story about your dogs?

Not if they are my really-o truly-o friends.  Reason?  Most of my friends are dog (or horse) people, and are just as likely as I am to talk about their animals.
I do have "other" friends, and they probably do get a bit tired of my stories.  They have the good grace, however, not to tell me - just as I don't tell them that I really have heard quite enough about their kids or grandkids or their daughter-in-law's labor pains, etc. [;)]

Almost everyone here thinks im a big dog freak and a degree short of a vet!! If they only knew that I know close to nothing about health/nutrition. Here in Puerto Rico people are not big on pampering pets, its more of a 'you're my dog and you'll stay tied outside with a crappy dog house' kind of relationship. Everyone just looks at me funny when I tell them Lizzie is inside, that she is fed half raw and that she has tons of toys and a nice big crate.

I spent the day with my DH's cousin the other day and I had my camera and I promptly showed her a picture of Lizzie and I thought she would look at me all weird but she pulled out her camera and showed me a picture of her gorgeous black chow chow! I have found my dog lover soulmate [:)]

The thing is she just moved from Florida, so dogs are a big part of her life also. I give her tips that I learn from i-dog and she shares insight with me also so it works out great.

***Oh and people look at me like I escaped from a mental institution when I tell them that Lizzie and Laika go to the vet! I do vaccinate at home but there are some things I cant/wont do
