    Rescue Remedy Questions

    Hi everyone (again [:)]),

I posted earlier asking for help with Riley and his phobia on thunder, fireworks and now loud sounds outside.  I did some research today online (didn't do a stitch of work though) and many people kept mentioning in articles Rescue Remedy.  Well, I went and bought it at lunchtime.  Can anyone tell me is it good?  How do I use it?  It says 4 drops ... Riley is 10 lbs ... do I give him 2 drops?  Will he get sleepy?  Are there any side effects?  Can I give it to him straight in his mouth?

Sorry for so many questions, but I don't want to hurt him and I trust all of you so much that I need to ask first before I try it.

    Thanks in advance.
    Mary

Believe it or not, and I don't know why, but the RR doseage is 4 drops regardless of size.  Weird, huh?  I found it easier to rub the drops into the underside of Mick's ear then put them in his mouth (evidently, that stuff tastes horrible!).  For times like the 4th of July, I also put some in the water dish.  It doesn't make Mick sleepy, just takes the edge off.  Oh- and I also discovered it's better to buy the small bottle instead of the larger one.  A bottle of RR seems to lose it's effectivness after awhile.  I usually end up buying a new one at the begining of each summer.

I like the ear tip, I usually put it under Russell's tongue. I typically give him some when we're traveling or visiting my crazy family. It doesn't have a dramatic effect, it just relaxes him slightly. I have taken it myself (it's for humans too) and loved it. I didn't feel sleepy or weird in any way, just less stressed. To me it tastes almost exactly like an Echinacea tincture. [:)]

I used it last year a bit and liked it for myself quite a bit.  I had great luck with a rescue kitten that was ill and also my puppy when I first got her.  It was too expensive to keep up, however, and I wasn't 100% sure that it wasn't messing with the meds I'm on - it's like 90% alcohol or something.[sm=eek.gif]

I have massaged it into ears, and I've used it orally, for my dogs. It works fantastically well. I take it, too. It's 27% alcohol, so it tastes like alcohol, LOL. Mine know that it HELPS, so they'll let me put it directly into their mouths.

If you thumb the bottle 8 times before you use it, it works better. Callie said so, and I tried it (why not, right?) and it really makes a difference. Weird, huh?
