OUCH!

    OUCH!

Oh man did that hurt!  We had the dogs out on their lines and when the ball got thrown one of the ropes wrapped around my ankle and just ripped the skin right off, almost all the way around the ankle.  It didn't bleed a drop....it's just ghostly white with a few reddish lines through it and down about as deep as a dime is thick.  The skin on both sides of the depression is bright, angry red.  The tail end of it must caught my other ankle because on the front of that leg I've got 3 or 4 good bloodless gashes as well.  Today has just NOT been my day for being outside.

so, any first aid suggestions?  I think I'll need to cover it cuz even the air hitting it stings.  Just neosporin and guaze maybe?

Wrap a baby snake around it?

Oh Jean, now I'm wounded all over again. [;)]  Gosh, and after I let the snake live instead of making confetti out of him.....seriously, this sucker STINGS like crazy.

LOL Sorry! I'm so glad you let the baby snake live. I didn't kill the spider, either. [:D]

Um, as far as first aid goes, I'd say neosporin plus some not-too-tight bandage gauze for a couple days to let it get healed, and after that probably healing in the open air. I have some antibiotic ointment that also has lidocaine in it to numb things, you might send DH to the drug store for some of that. It can really help.

I've had that same kind of injury and it really does hurt a lot! It's also weird when it doesn't bleed. Put your feet up today for a while, to lessen any edema, and/or to keep it from happening. My mom was a nurse. She was a biyatch, but I did learn pretty good first aid. [:)] It wouldn't hurt to have DH wait on you, hehe.

OMG - maybe you could send DH down to the pharm for some of that antiseptic spray that has a pain reliever right in it.
Sounds nasty - sorry that happened to you.

You've gotta know that I'm on an all out quest to be certain there are no mice in the garage now....just so no one decides to wander in for dinner!  There is a ledge on the back of the workbench against the wall and when I moved a box unpacking last week, a. nice fat one took off running.  So now the workshop REEKS of mothballs, all the cupboards are full of them and some back on that ledge where the dogs won't see them....and the papers underneath the garage stairs....gone.  Burned in the fire pit.  All 27 bundles of them!

I did send Todd up for some stuff....while I soaked in the tub and wondered if the burning from the water would EVER stop!  It did and then the water felt really nice.

I think that the project for THIS week while DS so home is gonna be to run a fence at the edge of the property....snake territory....so that I've got something between us and the county road and can feel secure in letting them out with us without the drag lines.  Those darned things are darned near lethal!

Too bad you're so far away, Glenda.  I'd say come on over and we'll heat up the hot tub and crawl in with a bottle of chilled wine. [:D]

Oh Glenda, what a day you have had.  First the snake and now the dog lines.  I would say some Neosporin will do the trick.  If I am ever worried about cleaning a wound I always pour some peroxide over it too!  I think a fence sounds like a good idea....this house sounded like the greatest place ever before you moved, but now it sounds like you have a little work to make it the greatest place ever.  Just keep in mind, that you WILL get to that point, and hopefully soon!  Is Shadow doing any better???

Oh Joyce, you're bringing back memories of Arroyo Grande and the lovely hot tub on the patio.......that and the fresh produce are the things I miss MOST about CA......

This truely is a great house and it's in a great location.  But yes, there was a LOT to do.  The owner is the stereotypical guy as far as cleaning...the house didn't look bad on the surface, unless you looked at the Nikki slobber on the walls and windows...but stuff like TWO cans of oven cleaner (which I never even use) to get the oven useable......the carpet by the back garage door was NOT indoor/outdoor and was saturated and in order to get rid of the wet dog smell, we had to get rid of that...then the carpet on the garage stairs and landing...well THAT smell became more noticable after the wet dog carpet left....and his old cat had used the carpeted stairs and carpet as a litter box so we had to rip THAT out...and it had been installed the old fashioned way, with a zillion nails!  In fairness to him, his garage doors were ALWAYS open so I doubt that he even noticed the smell.  I don't LIKE leaving overheads open, first because of the dogs and second because of what might decide to slither in.

The pool is almost operational now and that will be a very nice plus.  It had been drained, but, in the center its dug down to 6 foot deep and every time it rained, it collected water in the center along with crud from the trees and from the air.  Cleaning that out was a major job, and filling it took the best part of a week.  But we've got the pump and filter going now, some chemicals in there to discourage the skeeters from deciding that it's a major breeding ground.....now we have to figure out how to set up the solar heater and a sand pump.

I do think a fence will work wonders for MY peace of mind more than anything else.  The old school house faces the main road and it's a shallow but wide lot.  Our little "road" is basically a glorified driveway.  If I run fencing along the property line on that side, I'll feel more secure when the dogs are out with us.  Because getting out hasn't been a real regular thing, remember, they have a securely fenced yard of their own, they do get a bit wild when we first let them out, otherwise I wouldn't be using the darned lines.  I can mix those with perfect recall with those with not quite perfect recall and feel pretty secure about the OTHER bounderies, but the road makes me nervous.  So just a line of fence is all I really need to do to make me feel more secure for them.

And yes, Shadow is doing somewhat better.  He drove us both nuts yesterday while we were working outside, but getting him...and all of them...more exercise is starting to pay off.  That and a new spray bottle......I've had them all inside quite early the last two nites, and Saturday evening I was alone....and they settled much more quickly.

I live in the country surrounded by deep woods.....of course there are gonna be snakes.  I had just HOPED that I wouldn't have to run into any of them!  At least the one I met was just a baby.  And I sincerely hope if he lives to grow up he remembers that I'm a NICE lady who did NOT turn him into confetti!
