800pet meds

i was wondering where everyone buys their heartguard and frontline? i know its a little cheaper to get it from a place like pet meds than from your vet...what seems to be the best place to get these products?

I just usually buy from the vet. Have used 800 Pet meds though. They seem to be ok.

In order for you to put your dog on heartguard you must get a heartworm test first! It can be fatial if your dog goes on meds and has hearworm. The heartwome must be treated first before you give it heartguard.

The vets I work for do not like petmed because to many people who have not been to a vet try to self treat their pet with meds they buy online. Without the proper test and diagonisis the animals could die if given the wrong meds.

I just prefer to get my dogs meds straight from the vet, I just feel safer that way.

I bought my HW meds thru Dr's Fosters and Smith. The price was about $20 less than the vet. I had to have my vet fax the script to them, but they didn't mind. I've also found that many of the medicines that my vet prescribes (antibiotics) can be purchased for less, sometimes much less, at the local pharmacy. The vet understands this too and doesn't seem to mind.

I purchased Advantage through Pet Meds before and it didn't work. A week later my cat had fleas. After that I stopped using Advantage, but have since heard from vet techs that there have been a number of cases where Frontline and Advantage have been purchased from places like Petmeds and the vials actually contained a different product! It's my understanding that Merial, Pfizer and Bayer (manufacturers of Frontline, Advantage, Revolution and heartworm meds) ONLY sell their products to licensed veterianarians. So apparently there is a huge black market.

Also wanted to mention that it's possible for your dog to still get heartworm, even when on preventative. If you have proof that you bought the product from your veterinarian they will pay for all treatment. If you buy the product anywhere else they don't guarantee it.

I know it's cheaper but I don't want to give up my dogs health because I was being cheap. The vet often prescribes medication that the owner can pick up at a regular human pharmicy if thats cheaper. I get my glucosimine for gizmo from a pharmicy store but only because I knw which one she needs. I jus go with what the vet suggest.

I also don't trust the meds if I don't know where exactly they are comming from. I often am one of the techs who records the meds that come in, usally they are sent overnight in a box with icepacks direct from pfizer. Whos going to know if the med they get from an online store have been sitting in the hot wairhouse for weeks or if they are the real thing.

Our vet is wonderful... if we get a printout of the pricing from petmeds or drs foster & smith, they will match their price.... since you need to have your dog tested first (petmeds won't send out the hw prevention without your Vet's prescription), ask them if they would do this as well.

Thank you for preventing hw for your pup/s!! We currently have 2 dogs in our rescue who were hw positive and needed the treatment (very difficult and hard on the dogs, and thank GOD they didn't have damage to their hearts/lungs/organs yet, as we caught it early enough!)....
I'm a BIG advocate of hw prevention, especially in areas with high rates of infection... here's a link that has a map showing areas riddled with hw infection, so anyone reading here, if you live in/near any of the dotted areas, PLEASE have your pets tested and placed on preventative YESTERDAY!! Drs. Foster & Smith is legit, and there are others. The large catalog companies like Valley Vet Supply, Omaha Vaccine Company, Revival, etc. also accept prescriptions from vets for various products. My vet is always willing to try to save me money. She just smiles and says she understands that with five dogs I like to save if I can.

I've used Petscriptions for Interceptor and Frontline and 1800 Petmeds for some stuff for our rescue dogs. The last few times I've ordered Interceptor, I've used Entirely Pets because they had a sale on double orders of Interceptor...just be sure your prescription has a refill on it.

Well, I'm leary of PetMeds. Their commercials, logo, fonts, etc, look too much like a company called Pet Med Express. I remember reading something in the paper a few years ago that Ped Med Express had been found to be selling prescription meds without a prescrition (their vets were "writting" the prescriptions for online/call in customers without seeing the animals). Right after that, I stopped seeing their commercials. Next thing I know, I'm seeing commercials for 1-800-PetMed. To me it looked like they just changed their name. Just my opinion! [

] As for getting stuff cheaper- I've price shopped and really can't beat my vet's prices.

I actually did up a spreadsheet from PetMeds and a couple local vets and the vets won out in price. My vet is actually $1 cheaper and I don't pay shipping.
