how to remove Pine tree sap from my dogs coat?

Tank got pine tree sap all over his head and neck.  Does any one know how to get this hard crap off of him with out doing any harm to him?   He does smell good though!  lol,lol

Tea Tree Oil or coconut oil. Not like tanning coconut oil but the real stuff from the grocery and its ok if he licks it. Tea tree oilworks better but can cause a upset tummy if he licks it! No baby oil....its hard to get out and really bad if he licks it!

Oh and if the coconut oil is hard when you get it you gotta submerse the container its in, in warm water so it turns to liqiud form. Works great on our skin and hair too!

What a good idea!  I used mechanics Goop the one time Mick got sap on him, then made sure to was that area real well with his shampoo.

Peanut butter does the best job with it - plus it makes a good snack for the other dog if it's on the other's head [:D]

Butter or margerine rubbed into the fur also work well.  You will have to wash the area with soap and water after though.

Peanut butter is totally the way to go...
Talus lies under our pine tree in the front yard and gets sap on him all the time... the oil in the peanut butter totally takes the pine sap out....
I tell all my customers too.... ever have a hard time taking price tickets off of anything?.... use peanut butter, the oil breaks down the sticky stuff...just don't use it on wood or anything the oil will soak into...

Maybe just a rag with warm water...  I know warm water gets sugar wax out of hair and off of skin very easily... ?

Wow, I wish I'd known this stuff.

I've spent fifteen minutes before trying to scrub pine pitch off my own hands using lava soap and whatever.

I just left the tiny bit that was in Maddi's fur from our camping trip... I'll eventually come out [:)].

Geez, and I've been using expensive apricot oil to get Stockholm tar off my hands when I use it on the sheep's boo-boos.  Peanut butter - I'm so totally NOT Martha Stewart.  [8|]

Orange Oil -- the essential oil.  I CLEAN with it -- try it on a greasy stove!

Thanks to you all,  We are going to try the peanut butter tonight.  I just couldn't find the coconut oil in my home town.   Thanks for all the tips, you guys are great.   ...we just didn't have a clue on how to get that stuff off him.  He has such a nice coat and it bugged me more than him.
