    He swam!!!

I posted this in the health-puppy thread but wanted to share my good news over here . . .

C went swimming for the first time yesterday!!!! I don't have kids but I honestly felt like he was my baby taking his first steps. Some people watching nearby must have thought I was crazy, I was so excited!

So, I've been wanting C to swim ever since he was little (he's now a 14 month old RR) and he's never expressed interest. I've taken him to dogparks with other dogs playing in the water and the most he would go in was up to his ankles. I tried throwing sticks and treats in to tempt him with no luck.

Well, yesterday we were walking and he saw some ducks swimming close to shore and started pulling toward them so I just let go of the leash (we were in a semi-enclosed area so he couldn't run away) to see what he would do. Well, he tromped right into the water and then just started swimming right for the ducks!! He got right near them, then swam back, then went out again.  He'll probably be obsessed with ducks now but it was worth it :-)

Anyway, just had to share my news! Anyone else just have a "first" that they just experienced with their pups?

That is so great. I'm still trying to get Sara to like the water.

I'm very happy for you[;)]! Toby will only go up to her ankles
whereas chloe loves to swim in deep water.

One time it was super hot and on our daily romp i took them to the pond and she when head first and her back paws were stretched all the way out and she just slid right it! It was so cute!!![:D]

I am in the same boat - Wes had his first swim last week!!  We were on the trails at a near by nature preserve where the dogs are all off leash and we discovered a little side trail that led to a pond.  Previously, Wes had definitely gone in streams and brooks, he learned from other dogs and was really into it...  But, then we saw the pond.  There were dogs on the other side, swimming (playing fetch) and Wesley was racing up and down the banks on our side totally flaberghasted about WHAT WERE THOSE DOGS DOING!#$%*&!!  And so DH picked up a stick and threw it a little distance, where Wesley would have to swim out to get it - and he DID!!  We were SO excited - did it a few times (never too far - we were scared he would get confused or something and panic...).  But since then, we have been back a couple of times (it is the nearest place other than a plain dog park where he can run, so we try to go often) and since then - he seeks out the pond to go for a dip!!  We are really excited!!

I was ready with the camera when we took our pup to our lake house for the first time. I caught her first swim, or rather, her bolt out of the water after the swim....

Once was enough, then she decided to hang out in the weeds to dry off:
