Help! Is he not too young to be doing this?

Ben was in his crate today and started humping the cushioned part of his bed.  I mean REALLY going at it.  He'd stop, take a rest, and do it some more, and he kept it up for the better part of half an hour.  Isn't 2 months too young for that behaviour?  I mentioned it to my other half, who said he had seen Ben doing it this morning but thought his eyes had been deceiving him.

The crate door was open, so I don't think it was any kind of anxiousness or anything about being shut inside, although he is starting to love being in there anyway.

Really, do I need to worry about this?  I thought he was waaaay too young.  I did roll him over and look and his "thing" wasn't out.  Is this behaviour a sign of something else?

Any help would be much appreciated.

no he is just a dog.  Some dogs are more likely to ride animals and objects more than others.  Neutering some times cuts down on it, some times not.  Objects usually get ignored as the dogs get older.  The dog may try to ride other dogs in play situations.  It is all about being boss.

Zoe is almost 3 y.o., spayed, and female and a few months ago she started humping our arms.  I started a thread about this back then and everyone said some animals do it, others don't.  When Zoe humps our arm, "that area" is only humping air because she is hold our arm with her upper body only.

My dogs don't do it, ever, but if I am playing tug w/ Brando using his arch enemy tyty, and he gets really po'd at tyty, he will hump him. I just tell him no humping in this house, I push him off at his chest, and he stops then he goes into the bull thing, it's very funny as the stuffed animail is Brando's size. it's a dominance thing.

Boss and Gracie do it to each other. I caught Gracie on video doing it once, but the video is so dark it's hard to see. Boss and I were playing on the couch, she ran up and with no hesitation jumped on his back and started humping away... then jumped down and went into the kitchen.

~LMAO~  I'm sorry, Benedict, I'm not laughing AT you.  I'm just remebering when I first got Grady.  I gave him a fleece blankie to lay on in the family room.  He decided that he had to show it who was boss.  I turn to see him humping it passionately (if that's possible for a dog).  He had part of it in his mouth, one paw holding it like he was dancing with it & humping his little heart out.  I just about lost it laughing.  He looked so intent.  DH just rolled his eyes & said something about Grady not being right in da head.

My dog has never done this, but my old cat, he is 13 sure does, he has a stuffed cat that he humps all the time in my bedroom, I just shut the door. [:)
That's so sweet of you to give the love birds some privacy. ~LOL~

I witnessed one of my young pups at 6 wks mounting a toy.  I've never had a problem with ANY of mine mounting people, but they will on rare occasion mount another dog or a toy.  Perfectly normal.

LOL thank you, everyone, for the reassurance.  I just thought it was more of an adolescent thing, so I am glad he is not alone.  I will stop him if he ever shows signs of doing it to humans or other dogs, but if he keeps it confined to his bed I can live with that.  Honestly, it was pretty funny.  I have known full grown men with less energy in bed than that. [:D]

    Many thanks!

hahahahahaha. I'm not laughing at you, really. Bree, at almost 3 years old humps all sorts of innanimate objects. Her dog bed and blankets mostly. Vigorously, and enthusiastically in fact. She knows she's not allowed to hump objects with a pulse and breath, so she's relegated to beds and blankies. Oh well. We just typically hope she doesn't try it when company is over. [:D]

My 7 year old dog, Kota will hump blankets left on the floor.  He scrunches them up and moves across the floor humping away.  He humps Tasha too and as long as she doesn't appeared bothered by it, we just laugh and let it go.  Kota was neutered at 6 months by the way.
