Walk to Raise Money for Humane Society

Most of you probably did not hear about this in the news, but 69 dogs were rescued from one lady (at 2 houses) a few weeks ago in Harford County, Maryland.  The Humane Society there has taken in all the animals but cannot adopt any out yet because the woman has the nerve to try and regain custody.  For more info on how badly she treated the animals, please see this press release [linkhttp://www.harfordshelter.org/media0506.htm]http://www.harfordshelter.org/media0506.htm[/link] . So until the case goes to court, they are housing all these dogs, plus others.  Many of them need a lot of help and will be there a while anyway!   I am planning to go there in June and volunteer with some of the animals, but Zoe and I are also going to participate in a walk to help them raise money.  It is on June 25th.  If anyone else is interested in doing the walk, please let me know.

If you'd like to contribute to our donation, please use this link.  I set a goal of $150 but I hope to beat it.  If people help, I will contribute whatever I don't make towards $150 and if I do hit $150 with other people's help, I will add on to the total!  [linkhttp://www.firstgiving.com/smilee1079]http://www.firstgiving.com/smilee1079[/link] .  If you'd like to contribute but cannot do credit card on that site, please send me a PM.

I figure this is to help dogs so maybe you'd be interested.  I never have asked for money for this type of thing from people before so I don't know what to expect as a response.  I also sent an email to friends and family.  Do you think my goal is too high or too little?

Ive never done anything like this either... so not sure about your goal..  ??..  I havnt yet read the links you posted but I will and get back to you, I would love to help![:)]  I just think its great that they took these poor dogs in and are going to care for them until they can do more...

Thanks!  This was all over the news here, and was bad enough before she decided to try to get the dogs back too!  I am fairly sure that will never happen, at least I hope not!

Yay!  I got my first donor.  Only problem is, I don't know who Jennie and Tastycake are... I thought someone from the board based on the tastycake reference but I think that is the dog's name.  Was it someone from here?  It may be someone from my meetup group.. I dunno.  I need to figure out who to thank!

Anyway, the good news is the woman decided not to try to get the dogs back so luckily the ones that are healthy enough can be adopted now!  They still put a lot of money into the dogs and it is a great cause anyway!  I hope I get more donors!  I am looking forward to the walk!

Good for you!  I don't think your goal is too high at all; you could probably raise it a little bit and still meet it with contributions.  It's a good cause.

I would have guessed Jennie and Emma/Teenie, but not with "cheap husband."
    • Gold Top Dog
Yeah, I dunno.  I also posted on my Baltimore Broads Meetup group where I am trying to make it a group event so it may have been one of them.  I only know a few of them so maybe it was.  I thought the Tastycake reference was a co-inkydink though :).

Oh, it's definitely got to be Jennie with Emma & Teeny.  I sent her Tastykakes so it just seems to fit.

What you're doing is wonderful.  I don't think that $150 is too much to ask for @ all.  You are [sm=angel.gif]

I figured out who the Jennie was... someone I knew in college and haven't seen in 4 yrs!  How awesome!

Anyway, unfortunately, she is the only one who donated to it online.  The walk is tomorrow.  We'll be going rain or shine (it is supposed to thunderstorm on and off all day).  So, I am very short of my $100 goal.  I will of course donate and I am gonna try to get some again from my bf too.

Dang it! Wish i had seen this originally, sorry I can't do more right now.

    Have fun!

Thank you Sooner and KaraAnn.... any amount is ultra helpful to the doggies, cats, and other animals!  I think they even have some horses there!  So far I have $50 collected and I will match it :).  I hope to have over $100 total!
    • Gold Top Dog
Well, how was it? Did you and Zoe have a good time?
    • Gold Top Dog
I think I was uploading pics and writing in Zoe's blog when you posted :).

It was ok... unfortunately, pouring does not even describe the nasty weather during it!  I was supposed to meet 5 people there and all but 1 person backed out. One got rear-ended on the way there! I had Zoe's raincoat on her, but she still was very wet and when we finished actually walking, she was shivering... even if I held her for warmth.  The event was rain or shine but they didn't really do too many of the games because of the weather.  Unfortunately, I am sure the weather affected the turnout so I hope people still send in their fundraising collections.  I had $100 (I matched the $50 I collected).  Overall, I am glad I could help and am VERY thankful to those of you who contributed too!

Of course I had Orioles tickets for the afternoon game and the weather was perfect... it couldn't have been nice 4 hours earlier?  We have had a ton of rain... roads closed, etc. and this whole week is supposed to be more rain.

Here's the pics... one came out blurry and in the one of both of us, she looks tiny!

Sorry this one is a bit blurry.

I'm glad you both went despite the downpour! Poor little Zoe looks so cute in her raincoat, but she's totally soaked! What a trooper! Glad to help [;)]

You guys are awesome for going through with it. Too bad the weather affected the fundraising.

    Zoe looks adorable!
