Stupid dog tag...

I just figured out why my Pom's fur keeps getting discolored. It's the dog tag. We got a new town dog tag (new one every year), and this year's is somehow rubbing off on his fur and turning his creamy white fur into an ugly dirty gray. I don't wanna take it off forever 'cause I'm afraid he might need it (He does have another tag with name, phone, and address, but I dont know if the town requires the town tag).

So I thought maybe I can give it a coat of clear nail polish or something to keep it from rubbing off. Is this a good idea? Or is there something else I could do...

I have also heard of clear packing tape that you cut to the shape to cut down on the clanking. This might help with the rubbing off as well.

My dogs all wear tag holders because I can't stand the jingling and it was turning Tango's chest grey too.

I SWEAR by packing tape. I'm frugal by nature and can't see buying anything when I can just as easily wrap those tags in packing tape, protect them from rubbing and jingling AND preserve the engraving on them.....

glad i saw this thread. i dont mind the jingling but i worry about it bothering the dogs, i mean they hafta hear it every time they move. im gonna try the packing tape!

Thanks everyone! The packing tape sounds like a good idea. I think i'll give it a try tomorrow.
