• I'm a nervous wreck- tear duct flush thedoc617 Posted : 5/21/2006 10:14:22 PM Hey guys, Just wanted to say that Daisy is going in to flush out her tear ducts (they are clogged). She's going to go under anesthesia (Telazol induction then Isolfurine for matinence). She had been getting reoccuring eye infections for the past two months, so we thought we'd give this a shot to see if it helps. Vet did a flourecent drop thing to her eye to see if it would drip down into her nose, and not a single drop did so she's 100% clogged. They are doing pre-anestheisa bloodwork before the surgery. They say it's less invasive than a spay, but I'm still a nervous wreck. I guess I would be with any surgery she'd have to have.   Anybody have this done on their dogs? Did it last long? Like I said- I'm looking for reassurance. Please?   Send warm wishes her way tomorrow. I will update tomorrow on how it went. • jeano Posted : 5/22/2006 2:03:15 AM I haven't had a dog have this, but I had this over and over and over as a child. I was born without my left tear duct, and they had to wait until my facial bones had matured enough to be able to surgically make a tear duct for me. I had a runny, infected eye all my life until I had the surgery at age 14! It's VERY easy to irrigate the tear ducts and flush them out. Don't worry. The anesthesia is more of concern than the actual procedure! As a person, of course they didn't have to put me under for tear duct irrigation, but of course it's hard to get a dog to understand to hold still! It's super quick, no big deal. • thedoc617 Posted : 5/23/2006 9:52:50 AM We're baaack! Daisy did awesome! She's really sleepy and groggy, but other than that she's perfectly happy. Her eyes are a little goopy just from the vasaline they put in their eyes durring surgery. The vet techs fell in love with her. They sat with her and carried her around when they werne't busy, just because she gave them those eyes! LOL They said she came out of anesthesia really quickly. It was as if one minute she was totally under and the next she was barking and crying to be let out of that cage!
