    Peanut butter at bath time

I just want to thank whoever first posted the suggestion some months ago on this forum (old format) about smearing the bathtub wall with peanut butter for bath time.  Our last dog had been SO fearful of baths, she shook like a leaf the entire time and when Pofi seemed equally nervous about water from sprinkers and garden hoses and the kiddie pool we got him, we thought we had another dog we'd never be able to bathe without drama, trauma and guilt.

Tonight Pofi's "godmother" (the woman who originally found him in the woods) came by to take him for a walk - she also does pet care for us and comes by twice a week to give Pofi and Mia some exercise during the day. But she wanted (and Pofi probably needed) a little time just with her so I suggested she take him out on a weekend and I'd do something just with Mia.  She walked him down by the Mississippi and he found a dead fish to roll in just before they came back.

So I rolled up my sleeves drew some water in the tub, got peanut butter, a spatula, dog shampoo, a water pitcher and my dish washing gloves and smeared the pb on the wall and he GOT IN THE TUB ON HIS OWN!!  It wasn't the most thorough bath, but it wasn't traumatic, it WAS effective and he no longer reeks of decaying fish!

I thank you and my nose thanks you!!

Isn't that an awesome trick?!  I used it, too, and after many baths Roscoe gets in the tub on his own now without PB smeared on the walls.  I still have a spoon of PB available to give him a lick every once in a while during the bath, but he doesn't lick the walls the whole time.  [:D]

YES!  We do it, too!  Love that suggestion!
