    Flea Collars

I have a Registered Miniature Dachshund she is 11 weeks old and weights 3lbs and 8 oz,  I found a flea on her today. It she too young for a flea collar?
    Thanks

Any over the counter pest control methods are generally not safe.  Please get something safe for your pup from your Vet.

Welcome!  Please please please post pics of your mini.  I am a fan of them :).

I use frontline plus for my mini dachshund and have had no problems.  I am not sure what age it says you can start using it though.  Please DO NOT use Biospot.  My dog had an awful reaction to it and as soon as I mentioned it to the vet they told me it was toxic and should not even be sold.

I would suggest getting something through your vet.  Advantage and Frontline are the two I have used.  Any of the other brands they usually sell inside a pet or gorcery store have never done any good for me.  I haven't had a lot of luck with a flea collar either and prefer to use the liquid you put on them that lasts awhile.  Let's face it, flea collars aren't very cute anyway so that way you can keep the fleas off and have their cute collar on!

My dog takes medicine monthly medicine, even though he doesn't have fleas, he takes pre-emptive medicine to make sure he never gets fleas. After you treat your dog for fleas, maybe you should give monthly pre-emptive medicine to prevent it from happening again....

flea collars are worthless and many dogs have allergic reactions to so much insectide being near their face.
Your money would be better spent on something your vet can supply like Advantage

I agree with what others have said, flea collars are really not very effective, you would be better off getting the monthly fles preventative from your vet.

I agree. Flea collars are worthless, as are most over the counter flea meds. Get either Frontline or Advantage from your vet. They can advise you on the age and dose for your dog.

Stacy thanks for mentioning Biospot, and the fact that it's toxic. A few years ago, I thought about purchasing Biospot instead of our regular Frontline. Thank God I decided to check online and read a few product reviews before ordering. I quickly learned that it's VERY toxic.

I've heard one really good suggestion for using a flea collar - put it in your vacuum canister (or bag) and if you happen to vacuum up any little creepy crawlies, it will kill them.
