Any danger?

    Any danger?

We'll, i brought in groceries today and was putting stuff away.  I left an open box of those fudge shop cookies or whatever they're called on a chair.  I didn't even notice, but Maggie ate some when i was putting things away.  Im not sure how many she had, but at least one or two.

I know chocolate is really bad for dogs, should i be getting her to the vet?  Or just watch her?

You could just call and make sure but I think as long as it was only a two or three just watch her.

Please read the ingredients on the back of the package to ensure there are no artificial sweeteners like Xylenol in them. A lot of the time it is the artificial sugars that can be devastating to your pet and can cause seizures to death.

The second thing is how big is your baby. For a small dog, I would be calling the vet to get h/she's opinion.

If there are no artificial sweeteners etc, your dog may get sick and toss their cookies up if it is a large dog who has only eaten one cookie or even have an upset tummy.
If you are unsure, call your vet or an E-vet for advice.

    Hope everything is ok.

Some information on chocolate, maybe you can figure out how much she consumed:

The lethal dosage of theobromine in dogs is between 250 and 500 mgs/kg, or about 2/3 to 1 1/3 of baking chocolate for every 2.2 pounds of body weight. However, serious non-fatal poisonings have been reported in dogs after eating smaller amounts.

Relative theobromine content per ounce for various products is:
    Milk chocolate: 44 - 60 mgs/ounce
    Unsweetened baking chocolate: 450 mg/oz
    Cacao meal: 300 - 900 mg/oz
    Cacao beans: 300 - 1200 mg/oz
    Hot chocolate: 13 mg/oz

Two cookies isn't going to hurt an English Springer at all.

The artificial sweetener to watch out for is Xylitol.

Chocolate has to be consumed in large quantities to hurt a large dog. Keebler relies quite a bit on artificial ingredients, so I doubt there is even much chocolate in those cookies! If she had eaten an entire box of Baker's Chocolate (which is pure, unsweetened chocolate) THEN I'd be worried.

I have no authority on this subject at all... however, one of my friends dogs (Border collie Australian shepherd mix) some how got into a fairly large box of chocolate covered rasins at Easter a few years ago and ate them all. They rushed her to the vet and she was absolutely fine. So I wouldn't turn inside out over this, but i would surely check with a vet.
    Good Luck!

Thanks for the correction Jean... my mind is in China right now. Has been a sad couple of days for me anyways. With that said I am going to sign off.

    Thanks again   [:)]

I would echo what Sooner said. A toxic dose of chocolate depends on the amount of chocolate ingested versus the weight of the dog. What might cause a problem in a Yorkie wouldn't bother a yellow lab.

I'm not sure how much she had total, but she was laying down for a while, then she threw up.  Now she seems fine.  I guess that means shes over it?  Just an upset stomach.

Probably.  Crusher once ate just about a whole Aero bar.  It was one of those times when I trusted him out of his crate when we went to the store.  Unfortunately its harder to trust BF than the dog.  When we came back Crusher was waiting patiently at the door, but the chocolate bar wrapper was on the floor and a little mangled.  He was fine though.  Didn't even puke.

I did the same thing. I opened some Girl Scout cookies in the
car and after taking in the groceries noticed Chow had grabbed
the bag.  My neighbors probably thought I was nuts because I
had to hold his mouth open to smell his breath for chocolate.
It smelled like dog so I figured it was okay.
Since she threw up I wouldn't worry.
