Bad day at the vet for Max

Poor Max. My parents dog was like that. It was very hard to give him a shot and after a few years the vet told them not to come back. He lived to be 16 years old. When he finally went to the vet it was time for him to be put to sleep.
He was an inside dog and had been adopted from the pound at age 1.5 years old. There are certain things thou that freaked him out. Going to the vet was one thing.
He was a precious dog. One time a german shepherd got of the leash when my dad was walking our dog. My dad thought that it would end up in a big fight and that our dog would get killed. But Burschi took off and ran all the way home and made enough noise so my mom would open the door for him. She thought my dad had gotten hurt, but it was just the dog being afraid of getting killed.
Well that has nothing to do with the vaccine thing..just remembered that as I was writing about him.

Glenda, Drs Foster and Smith only has the bordatella as a single dose. 1800petmeds had a single dose 7 in 1. But, I finally found a benefit of where my mom works. She works in the absolute crappiest restaurant ever. I ate there once, it was horrible. Anyway, for some reason they have regulars that come in. I don't know why anyone who has eaten there once would want to come back, but some people do. So, one of the regulars, I don't know where he works, but apparently he gets one of the other people that works there vaccines for her three dogs. I'm going to write down for my mom what I want, hopefully he can get me just that. If he can't get just that, i'm hoping I can at least get a combo without so much uneeded stuff.
So, I still have no choice on the rabies, and I guess they're going to want to do the heartworm blood draw, and he's got something going (swollen, I think he might have had a blister, but I was dremeling his nails this morning and I think I popped it) on in between two of his toes on one of his front feet that needs to be looked at. I let them know about that today, and they got a quick glance at it, but they really didn't get to check it out. Maybe it would heal alright on its own, but if they're going to sedate him, I guess I should make sure everything is taken care of.
Pofi and Mia's mom (I can't your name, or if I even know it), he was surprisingly scared about the scale, but he never has been. I think it was more the girl who was trying to get him on it, because he got right on once she moved away. I knew his weight anyway since science diet has put scales up in every store, and I made him do a sit stay on one over the weekend while my friend was in a line because he wouldn't stop nosing everyone. So when I told her the weight and she went to put it in, he got right on the scale.
Cathy, I don't know about that, or well, I do, but I shouldn't do it. I know that giving him caffeinated soda will really calm him down. He climbed up and took my sister's mountain dew from the cup holder once. Later on that day at training, everyone was totally shocked at how calm he was, and we couldn't figure out why at the time. Maybe I should have ordered him a soda when we went to Taco Bell on our way to the vet today (j/k).

Hmm... I found a site with rabies (minimum of 10 doses but it's only $12), and they can ship it to PA. The only problem is, the state won't recognize it if it's not done by a vet. So, I guess i'm going to have to get at least that done at the vet. Plus, when we want to adopt another dog, if we've got one who hasn't been to the vet in forever, it's going to be really hard, if not imposssible to get approved to adopt.

Have you looked at Revival for the parvo/distemper?

Rabies is one that I'd just as soon let the vet do.....most states won't recognize home done rabies....not sure when you have the receipt for vaccine and syringes what they think you DID with it.....

I'm on the revival site right now. I can only find a single parvo, no single distemper, but I did find a combo that is only Distemper and Parvo. I think that's the best i'll be able to find, but i'm kinda confused about whether or not I can use it. It's called Progard Puppy DPv [linkhttp://www.revivalanimal.com/product.asp_Q_pn_E_31-413_A_name_E_Progard%20Puppy-DPv]http://www.revivalanimal.com/product.asp_Q_pn_E_31-413_A_name_E_Progard%20Puppy-DPv[/link]
So does that mean it should only be used for puppies, or can it be used for adults? It says revaccinate annually, and I can't think of why I couldn't use it on an adult.
They unfortunately don't have any of only Bordatella for dogs in a single dose package. The smallest is 10 doses. Anyone know how long this stuff is good for? Anyone who lives near me want some Bordatella vaccine?

I do use that.  You can call them and they're really good about answering your questions.

Meant to say...be careful of this guy at the diner.....a lot of feed stores sell vaccine, but I've been cautioned by vets not to trust that the vaccine is fresh and has been properly stored.

Good point. I think i'm just going to get them from revival. Even if I have to buy 10 doses of the Bordatella, and I most like won't use it all, the total for that and the Distemper/Parvo is still a few cents less than another vet exam, not including another sedation.

I have to second Glenda & Cathy, Jenn.  A muzzle and/or sedation and two trips would be a lot better than all the shots at once.  Poor Max.  Give him a smooch from my Max.

My mom just called me from her work cause the guy is in. Apparently he works in the veterinary division of a pharmaceutical company, so I think I can trust that he is not a shady character (except for the odd fact that he regularly dines in such a crap hole). If something seems off about what he gives us, I can always dump it and order some online. It's not like he'll know what was done with it once it leaves his hands, so he won't know if I decide not to use it, and he can't be insulted at all.
So, I guess he'll be sedated next week for his rabies, and then my sister can do the others a little later and spread them out.
I'll have to see how willing they will be to let me bring him in, take him in a room, and have people give him treats in the hope that maybe next year, he will actually allow them to examine him. If they won't do it, I guess I can always open the phone book, and call everyone until I find someone who's at least willing to let me try.
