There is the UKC which is where my girl is registered. There are numerous other kennel clubs that organize by specific breeds, activiteis like weight pulling and agility too! There is the national Kennel Club and regianl ones too. You can be a part of multiple ones as long as its not against club policies
here is a small list I found but there is tons more!

Some of the most reputable in addition to AKC (reputable being a relative term) are the UKC, Canadian Kennel Club, World Wide Kennel Club, FCI (an international kennel club), and I think the Australian Shepderd Club of America allows dogs of all breeds to compete, but I'm not sure.

There are several legit Border collie specific registries.  Many people are surprised that there ARE so many and that they all are genuine.  The ISDS registers them overseas and awards the International Supreme and World Sheepdog Trial Champion titles.  The oldest US registry is the North American Stock Dog Registry, which was followed by the American-International BC registry and the Canadian BC Association.  The American BCA is the newest arrival but is currently the largest US registry (with ten times the number of yearly registrations as the AKC).

A Border collie may  be multiple registered with any number of these registries, but the ABCA and the ISDS will NOT accept an AKC registered dog into their studbooks.

APRI is a good dog registry. You have to watch out for the ones that aren't  legeet. APRI has a good web site to go to and read about them. CKC also has a web site. Both of these registries has dog shows around the county.

mscorgi - I hate to tell ya, but APRI and CKC (Continental Kennel Club aka ConKC) are both huge puppy mill registries.  They'll register anything if you have the money and came into existance for people who have been suspended from the AKC for poor breeding practices or can't register their litters either because the dog or its offspring is not a purebred or the "breeder" never had AKC papers on the parents.  But, thanks to the APRI and ConKC, these "breeders" can still say that their dogs are registered or have papers.  Dog shows mean zippo if there isn't a parent club behind each breed standard to support the development of the perfect specimen of the breed.  I've got my issues with the AKC, but at least they're not out there to deliberately screw people over and give puppy millers a boost.

Sorry, obviously a bit of a sore point for me.

    Calypso,

Your are so right regarding APRI, Our 2 yr female pem. corgi was registered through them and after having the petshop puppys website research it for me, it was horrific when I found out where she came from.

APRI Even has a link on thier site for puppy millers to discuss ways to keep people at bay, of finding out they are really puppy mills, just awlful.
