Others will be along, but for me? I always wait to see what their personality is going to be.
When we got Tinkerbell it took about 3 days ... but I'll tell you -- you know that part in Peter Pan when Tink gets just a little bit unhappy with how much time Peter spends with that ... that ... THAT WENDY PERSON?????? and she folds her arms, taps her little fairy toe and gives him quite the scowl??
YEP ... that was MY tinkerbell!! Aside from the fact she zooms around like she was leaving a trail of fairy dust I tell ya ... that little scowl of hers NAMED her and it has been probably one of the most appropriate dog names I've ever done.
Billy -- that's short for "'Bilbo" (as in the hobbit??) -- about a week after he came to live with us my husband found him out in our laundry building up on the TOP SHELF of a set of 6 foot shelving. HOW he got up there is anyone's guess. But he was!! And thus ... we decided that much of an adventurous spirit merited a name like Bilbo -- and "Billy the Venturing English Cocker spanYELL" was named.
Favorite books? Favorite songs? Favorite things to do?
I like to take names from literature I like (I've had a Pollyanna, a Fox, a Pippin, ...) and I also like two syllable call names. It's more of a challenge I think, to name them by personality, but I've never had it go awry. Good luck!!
