Ooohhhh!  That looks cool!  I might be able to talk DH into going!  Especially since it is at the Cotton Bowl!  Only problem is I would want to go to the museums too and I doubt they will let me bring the doogies in!  Plus, it is suppossed to be raining all weekend and I don't think it is covered!

It says there will be rides on the swans aroung the lagoon....that sounds like fun!

Gina, I bet your kids would have a blast at this even if you can't take any of the puppers...

Well it's on Sunday and most all the weather things I looked at were clear or cloudy with no rain. Not saying it won't be muddy...lol! But I think they keep that field in pretty nice shape and likely cover it during bad storms.

The museums are nice....but they're open every weekend lol. How often do you get to run your dog in the COTTON BOWL?? ;o)

BTW do you do Fort Woof? The dog park in FW?
    • Gold Top Dog
Well I have never run my dogs in the Cotton Bowll!!!  That is what I am thinking will be so cool!  I hardly ever make it to Dallas though so I want to check out the museums too but you are right, this is a once in a lifetime chance!

I have never actually been to Fort Woof but it is something I have been looking at a lot lately.  I just figured out exactly where it is last weekend.  I recently took my dogs to an off leash area in Austin and they had a great time!  I have to talk my DH into going with me though b/c it is hard to keep my eye on both of them at the same time.  I only live about 10 minutes from it...I am thinking about just going and taking one dog at a time at first to check it out.  Do you ever go there?

Izzy is young and needs to be supervised with other dogs.  She has a tendancy to get in their face when she gets scared or when they rush her and she doesn't know them, especially when they are a lot bigger than her, which can cause more good than harm.  She is all bark and no bite!  Harley is great with any other dog, but will go off in his own little world marking trees and stuff and be miles away before he ever notices that I am no where to be found!  Oh and when he is doing this, his hearing becomes selective.  At least that was the problem in Austin b/c the area was not fenced, it was just BIG!

The Fort Woof park JUST won the big prize as far as being the #1 dog park in America so how LUCKY are we to live nearby? You must go now...lol!

Actually if you check the link you see have a "small dog area" separated out...which is neat. The park looks amazing....I can't wait until my little ones are old enough to go!

We should meet up there sometime...we can help watch each other's pups [:D]

I didn't know it had won #1 in America but I do plan to go soon!  Maybe this weekend while my cousin is here with her dogs!  I think meeting up sometime sounds like a great idea.  Your and my dogs will all be able to go in the small dog area and I love puppy breath!

Aww Geez!! NO FAIR! I have finals and I'm stuck at school (2 hours away) all weekend. [:(]

I have not been to Fort Woof- but I'd really like to! The only problem I have is that Daisy's recall is less than perfect, so we're starting to build up on off-leash areas with distractions. We just got a dog park near my house (grapevine) so we'll try to go there when she gets better.

Ya know I am probably a bad owner...but I'v NEVER taken a dog to a dog park with a recall...reliable or otherwise lol. I just keep my eye on them and use NO, OFF, LEAVE IT as necessary. I don't think that is the place to worry about them "coming" to you...unless you're into the competitive aspect of OB. They are there to have fun...and without fail mine ALWAYS come to me when they have had enough and are ready to go...I sure as heck ain't worrying about a recall on my 4 mo old pups that I'm taking there!

Judging by my experiences in the parks...others feel much the same...people are always yelling their dogs names and people are always getting ignored...lol!

Yeah, I worry about the recall in an open area without a fence, but that is why I have been checking out Fort Woof b/c it has a double entry I believe so the farthest they will get is the fence.  Izzy is the one without the recall and Harley just plain ol forgets that I exist!  I will just be sure to take some good treats in case I need to trick them into coming back at some point!

I don't think it makes you a bad owner though at all!  That is what it is there for!  Those of us who want to give our dogs something special to do like that but can't take them to an open area w/o a fence and not worry about them getting hit by a car or running off!

Thanks! :) I also have done my share of "collecting" other's dogs. The owner is trying to get a hold of em...the dog knows whats up...you say Hi doggy...give them some love then just hold on to their collar a bit...and then the owner arrives to "hitch them up" and get outta Dodge :)

I find it easiest...truly to simply think about leaving....and scoop them up and leash them as I can....or wait for them to come by for a snog or check in then leash them.

Or the best trick....love on some OTHER dog and they come running up...'HEY....don't forget who you came here with, Mom!"

Don't forget that Denton opens its dog park on Monday. Also Denton Dog Days on June 3rd, which should be fun. You could even meet Link, since we'll be there all day in a booth. [sm=biggrin.gif]

I am thankful for the double gate entry. Whenever a new pup comes inside, Daisy makes a bee-line for the enterance and has managed to get out the one gate, but (Thankfully) not the other one.

She has bad doggie manners I guess. She can only play with dogs that are her size because she'll try to hump the dogs that are bigger than her, and most of them don't like that and will snap at her, and she still won't get the hint.

I used to fish at Lake Grapevine and once in a while, we go to germandeli.com, which is a warehouse based in Southlake. We especially like the lebkuchen and advent calendars. My wife's family is of german descent on both sides and my mother's father was from Germany. I don't have perfect recall on Shadow. He will look to me but the last time and only time I took him to a dog park was in Plano. Of course, that was before neutering and may have been the reason for his erratic behavior. He didn't fight but he was going crazy sniffing all the females and charging, though not fighting, all the males. I resolved that we would work on obedience much more. I wouldn't mind entering a dog walk, though. He was bred for long distance.

The weather is supposed to clear up Saturday afternoon and be pleasant on Sunday.
