    Boomer Update

    HI everyone,

Boomer spent most of the day at the vets. And the good news is
that the doctor seems to thinks he can save the leg. He will have to
go in and essentially break it again, apparently higher up and then
reset it not using a pin but something else, I don't remember what it
was but it is more comprehensive than a pin. Poor Boomer, but at least he will be able to use it, albeit he will most likely always have a
limp, but as I said to the doctor, hey, I'm getting arthritis in one knee....So his foster family will drop him off Sunday and we will take him in Monday. He'll be at the vets for a whole week, in part
because we have planned a surprise visit to my in-laws in Naperville and so I would rather he stay where they can watch him. The doctor is a surgeon and he seems to think he can fix it so we'll keep
    our fingers  (and paws) crossed.
    Thanks for your good wishes.

Poor guy!  A broken leg isn't gonna be fun THIS time of year, but at least it's before the really HOT weather, and he'll be mended in time to enjoy some swimming this summer.  Tummy rubs, ear scritches and healing vibes coming his way!

    Sooner,

Your Boomer kind of look slike what our Boomer will look like when he
fills out and gets a bit older. He's some sort of lab mix but not big, he's abotu the same
height as Mcoha (2l inches high from back) but a lot skinnier. Need to fatten him up after
    his surgery.

I tried to find the initial post or thread where you would have described what happened or what was wrong but I can't find it.

Anyway, good luck and speedy recovery.

    Ron2

Please bear  with me, I haven't figured out how to respond to just one person and I'm in kind of a hurry.
This is in response to ron2 who couldn't find the orginal Boomer  theread. Boomer is a lad mix, small,
black, probably won't get over 50 lbs. He was hit by a car and taken to the pound in Muskegon and then
given to Lifeline for Pound Buddies and his leg was fixed and he was  at foster family. I found him on Petfinder
and he met our dog and they got along great. We took to our vet because his leg really wasn't doing anything,
just sort of  hanging there and it's been two months. So our vet is a surgeon  and he said he could save the
leg but he will have to rebreak it and set it again a different way. He's only like 9 months  old and I would like
to save the leg. He'll always have a limp, but thats ok. So the foster family is going to drop him off tomorrow on
their way to Detroit and we are signing the papers and having a little  root beer float party in honor of Boomer
(he and Mocha Jean can have Frosty Paws) and then we are taking him to our Vet on Monday for surgery.
So that's the story on Boomer.

Thanks for explaining and doggy angel wings to you with your big heart. People like you, Glenda, and others here involved in rescue help to restore my sometimes shaky faith in humanity.

Hi there! My dog also had a broken leg when he was younger, but unfortunately didn't get the vet care that Boomer has had or will have. He was severely abused and from what anyone knows, the guy stomped him to cause the break. His leg never heeled properly and he does walk with a limp, and has arthritis. After several emails with Callie, we decided that it also has caused him shoulder pain (his break was at the elbow), and he also has back pain from the leg not healing properly and his walk is so misaligned.

Also, thanks to Callie, we use White Flower Oil during massage and it helps tremendously, and on really bad nights Valerian root to help him sleep. I also use a T-shirt to help keep the joint warmer in winter. (Michigan winters suck, don't they?) It's cute and he loves his SpongeBob shirt! So, those are just some things you can keep in mind in the future. Boss' break was when he was about 4 months, he'll be 2 in June and already has problems. Not trying to scare you, just letting you know that it could happen sooner than you would think. I assumed Boss' problems wouldn't show up until he was much older, but I was wrong.

    Trishanne,

Someone should have stomped that guy. Over and over.
Thanks for the tip about the oil. I dropped Boomer off at the Vets this morning. The
other vet was going to prep him and she said  the vet that was going to do the surgery
"loves orthopedics" it's what he does. We're having the microchip put in at  the same
time. I know that arthritis is probably in the future, but we just have to hope he has a
    few good years anyway and there's always the arthritis medicine;
Your dog looks so much like Mocha Jean up at our cottage in northern Michigan. She's
    part pit and part lab.
