Help with breed type, please :)

We got Periwinkle from a rescue, and I'm not really sure what she is. I was thinking part Greyhound, but recently saw a Saluki and I thought that might be it? Any thoughts? Looks like she has some Catahoula in her to me, and maybe some greyhound

Thanks! I've never seen a Catahoula before. That would help explain her coat :)

I think you'd be safe saying Lurcher or Lurcher type. That is Greyhound/Sighthound mix with another breed...usually Collie, Border Collie or other farm type dog.

     Wow! She's beautiful!

I'd say she's got hound, very possibly Catahoula, with that color and face.  And then I'd guess husky, maybe... and some kind of sight-hound.  I say Husky cause her coat reminds me of husky, and something about her stance.  But she's so slight!  How tall is she and how much does she weigh.  Maybe whippet?

Regardless, she's a very striking, beautiful dog!

Neat, thanks! I'm learning all kinds of new things tonight!

Thanks, Sera_J! I do love the way she looks, especially the the symmetrical pink dots on her nose. She's about 24 inches tall at the shoulders, and weighs a little under 50 pounds. She's really surprisingly light when you pick her up. Everyone is giving great suggestions, thank you!

    I'd say she's a 'gorgeous'.  :oP

Never mind what is she, she's adorable! I love her nose!Wink

I see aussie in those markings! No white beyond the shoulders (except underbelly), copper in face, spotty nose....

So I'd say aussie and greyhound

I have no guesses, but just had to say that she is really pretty!

I think Catahoula.  Especially since you are in the South.  If she's mixed with anything, I doubt it's Aussie.  Longer coats are dominant, so if she had an Aussie parent, there would only be a one in four chance of a really short-coated dog, I think.  Have a look around this site:

Also, Catahoulas have webbed feet - check her toesies.

I agree with the Catahoula guesses - she looks very much like one and your location would make sense to find one (or a mix) in a shelter. http://www.catahoularescue.com/

The Catahoulas I have seen have had a wide range of size, color and body type. I honestly don't see any reason to guess there is sighthound of any sort in her - lurchers tend to be much more sighthound-y in the head (longer muzzle, thinner head and less stop). How old is she? She looks very immature in the pictures.

yep..looks like a catahoula to me..They very alot in type - from some that are more "leggy" and thin, to some that are a bit shorter and stocky...If shes mixed with anything, i really dont know what itd be..  I doubt saluki, as they are pretty rare.  Especially in the south, Houlas are pretty common, and since lots of people breed them for working dogs, and not show dogs, like i said they very ALOT in conformation.

She's about 3 years old in these pictures.

    Thanks everyone for the help!
